Have been really tired,sweaty,aching legs,light heade d,breathless.Can't walk far.Felt quite ill.Bisoporal could b the problem and Docs taken me off it.Can use as "pill in the pocket".Anyone else had these problems please

Sounds normal. Bisoprolol does not suit many people.

If we were to judge by opinions given here, I think the question might rather be “anyone taking Bisoprolol who doesn’t experience...” followed by the symptoms you describe. I did have your side effects on Bisoprolol , and feel better on Nebivolol. Others say be patient and the side effects will improve. And others that their cardiologist said Bisoprolol remained the betablocker of choice in AF.

That's my normal feeling when in AF with tachycardia. Have you checked what your pulse is doing?

Yes all of the above! Came off bisoprolol as daily dose because of it,and now use as pill in pocket. I don't often get very fast AF.so think it was overkill taking bisoprolol every day,my heart rate was always around 40-50 and I'm no athlete There are other betablocker s which several followers say are better... I tolerated those effects on Bisoprolol and they improved only very slightly on a reduced dose. Since starting Nebivolol 8 months ago they have gone almost completely.

As I also take Flecainide, my EP said I cannot use a beta blocker as a pill in the pocket as Flecainide causes me short runs of AFlutter which need to have the heart rate kept down.

Have a talk with your doc about your symptoms and the possibility of trying either another BB or using it as a PIP if you are not taking an anti arrhythmic drug.

PS sorry for the jargon. BB is beta blocker and PIP is pill in the pocket. My bad.

It refers to the taking of a drug only when an episode starts - the idea is that you carry the pill (usually an anti arrhythmic or a beta blocker) in your pocket. The idea is that the drugs stop or control infrequent episodes of AF when needed, leaving you free of that drug at other times.

oh thanks for that, my husband is in permanent AF so would not apply to him, he is suffering awful side effects from the Bisoprolol though.

Yes, I - and many others - have had bad effects from Bisoprolol too. My GP changed me to Nebivolol which has fewer effects on the lungs, so the awful breathlessness and fatigue are gone. There are many posts on Nebivolol and Bisoprolol if you use the search box at the top right of the screen.

Hi John.Am only on 2.5.I had a cardio mems probe fitted two years ago and the HF team admitted me on Friday because my heart rate was 125.I have been so poorly recently and my Consultant was attributing it to Bisoporol as it is the only thing that has changed.I am out of h os awaiting a phone call as to when and what pacemaker to have fitted.Been told its likely this week.

Yes, I had the same problems with this drug. Am now on Atenolol. What a difference. Life is almost normal.

I felt like an invalid when I was on Bisoprolol which the doctor had prescribed at 10mg per day initially and then never altered. I managed to get it changed to Nebivolol 5mg after recommendations on this site and have found I still do have a life after all!! The nightmares, leg swelling,foot numbness and depression have all gone!! I know we all react to drugs differently but for me Nebivolol is a winner! 😊

I have been on Bisoporol for nearly a year with no significant side effects although took a couple of weeks for body to initially adjust. God luck.

I felt like a zombie the first time I was put on Bisoprolol 5mg by a hospital cardiologist . I told my GP that I preferred to die rather than live the rest of my life feeling so awful! He let me reduce it quickly to 2.5 then 1.25 mg. After a Holter my own cardiologist let me wean off it completely. When the AF reared it's ugly head again after a major op in March this year another hospital cardiologist again started me on 5mg which seems to be a standard starting dose here in France. But this time I was forearmed by experience. As I had reverted to NSR within 12 hours I took only 1.25mg. Even this makes me somnolent and lacking in energy . I also have problems with sweating but cold feet too. I have managed to wean down to less than 1mg but it is difficult cutting the small pills in bits. I am going to ask my GP for a change to Nebivolol the next time I go for my prescription renewal visit. All theposts I have read about it here are positive.

Thanks John.Update is they have found i have an overactive thyroid and now on meds.This has to take priority over pacemaker.Very similar symptoms to Bisoporol.It's been one thing after another.Onwards and upwards...
