Bisoporol

Hi, just started on 2.5 of Bisoporol following a bad case of AF. Taking it at 7am and it seems to take a couple of hours to help as BP and heartrate are high until then. Later in the day , around 7pm, it seems to wear off and bp and heartrate increase a lot.

Only been on it 3 days so wondering if it takes a while to build up in your system or maybe I need a stronger dose? Any ideas people ?

I recently read that it takes roughly 5 times the half life of a drug for it to reach optimum saturation in the body, so if you take it once a day, it should take five days.

If you find it isn’t helping, do talk to your doc, as there are other options.

Hi. Bisoprolol is not a cumulative drug. 12 - 24 hours is its life. If you feel its not doing the job it would be wise to see the doc

hi swansong, generally with any betablocker you start on a low dose then under the supervision of your doctor, the dose is adjusted until it has reached the optimum level for you. Similarly, if or when the doctors suggests to come off it, the dose should be reduced gradually over time. However, some doctors may not always take that view so they may have to be prompted....if you know what I mean!

Great, thanks for your info 😃

I was originally prescribed 5 mg Bisoprolol to be taken in the morning. Developed undesirable side effects. Saw my GP who said take it at night. Perfect, no more side effects and keeps my resting heart rate at around 62 to 65 bpm. It's one of my best friends 😀

Yes, I had lots of side effects that have disappeared since taking it at night . I don't understand why this isn't mentioned as an option when you initially start the Bisoprolol.

Maybe a split dose morning & evening would be better, I used to take mine like that before I changed to Sotalol (also 12 hourly dose) Go back to your doctor & tell/ask them.

Hi I was taking my 2.5 Bisoprolol in the mornings but I was left tired/lacking energy, following a reply on this I now take at night and feeling so much better. Good luck

Hi Swansong,

The duration of Bisoprolol is approx. 8 hrs.

So the timing of your symptoms returning is right on.

2.5Mg is a very low dose (I also am on 2.5Mg OD).

I would like to suggest that you speak to you Dr to increase the dose to 5Mg.

This will increase the duration of action.

Alternatively, he/she can change over to a third generation Beta blocker like Nebivolol 2.5Mg.

we can discuss this further if you like.

Have a great day.
