Hey everyone,

I’m four days post ablation for the past two days my heart rate hasn’t dropped under 100bpm I’m having some odd rhythms too .

Has anyone experience this ? Does it sound normal?

Many thanks Michelle

My ablation was in September and I had rapid heart rate and elevated BP even with the slightest exertion for about 3 weeks. But I did not have unusual rhythms, but I understand that is also not uncommon, however, I would suggest calling your doctors office just to be sure. I called my doctor's office every day for about a week with one question/concern or another. They were very helpful.

Thank you for your reply ,

It’s reassuring to hear others have had similar concerns.

I think I will call my GP Monday just to be sure . X

Hi Michelle,

I am 5 weeks post ablation and I have experienced the same problems as you. So for the first 3 weeks my heart race was over 100 and went as high as 156 at times and kept getting funny beat. I went to my GP and he decided to put me on a beta blocker to reduce the rate.

These have definitely helped me. However I am still experiencing strange beats, had a funny one in bed last night that made me feel sick instantly it was really bizarre.

From what I’ve read it’s all part of the healing process. Just keep an eye on it and remember you know your own body and will know when something isn’t right.

Good luck

Amy x

Hi Amy ,

Thank you for your reply .

Sorry to hear you have suffered too . I’m thinking an appointment might be an idea and suggest a beta blocker until things settle .

I know what you mean by strange beats I had a couple that actually hurt .

All the best 🙂

Hi Michelle,

Can i ask how you feel now?

There was a paragraph about increased heart rate and odd rhythms in the AFA factsheet I sent you a day or so ago...…..

My heartbeat was faster than my normal after my ablation in May and I did get quite a few eptopics, my resting rate is now between 75 and 85 bpm which is 20 bpm more than when I was on the heart meds, but I'm not on any now except rivaroxaban anticoagulant and the eptopics I have been taking magnesium turate, they have reduced to next to nothing now.

That’s great news Brizzy . What was your rate after ablation? My heart rate is all over the place . Many people say this is part of the healing process. I’m not feeling great . I guess we all hope for results straight away .

I can also feel little flutters now and then .

My rate after ablation was about 90 but settled after a few weeks, I did have an hour run of AF on day six but none since then, eptopics plagued me for a few months which did worry me, but after looking at Dr Sanjay Gupta videos on YouTube and getting the magnesium turate I worried less, still get the odd ectopics but I'm ok with it now.

It's really normal to have a higher heart rate post ablation. You are so early on in the healing process. Don't stress if you still have some blips of AFib or other unusual rhythms. Your heart has just had major trauma and the healing or blanking process takes 3-6 months. The best thing you can do is heal gently and not push yourself as you only get one chance to heal perfectly from this ablation. Rest easy!

I was the same as you and I was scheduled for a cardioversion but went on a low dose beta blocker and went back into NSR without the version.4 months later all is well.Give it time and don’t stress over those weird bangs because it took 4 months for mine to go away.I only get a few ectopics now and don’t worry about them. The holter monitor at three months will let your Dr. Know about the success of your ablation.

How fast does your heart need to be going to end up having a cardioversion ? I really hope I don’t . I’m going to give my heart nurse a call tomorrow.,

Really pleased all has worked for you and your feeling well .

That’s a great idea to phone the nurse as she may want you to keep track of your heart rate for a few days.My cardiologist said if I was in AF every day for a week right after an ablation he would do a cardioversion. HR 100 to150 or more.Luckily for me the atenolol worked and I did not need it.

Yes for me. My hr went up to approximately 160 bpm and I also went into a fib just 3 days after my ablation in October. I had to be hospitalized for 2 days. Since then it has resolved.

Everyone is different but post ablation, my heart rate went from a resting rate of 52 to just under 100 and over just a few days was down to 85 (so was still a lot higher than it used to be). It gradually decreased after that over the next several months. A few days post-ablation I did start having some very funny heart ryhthms such as trigeminy (felt like every third heart beat was missed), but over the next few months most of that went away. I just have the occasional ectopic heart beat now.

That’s great planetiowa , thank you for taking time to write to me and sharing your experience, really helps to feel reassured.

Iv been to the doctors he’s suggested a beta blocker. How your describe your funny rhythms Sound similar to what I’m experiencing.

Keep well x
