Kardia and atrial ectopics

Just prior to my ablation, earlier this week, the nurse took an ECG and identified SR with atrial ectopics. My Kardia was showing possible atrial fibrillation. Can the Kardia differentiate between AF and atrial ectopics?

Using the St Jude ensuite system for the ablation and it was very strange seeing a computer image of my heart on display, I feel much better and stronger already, although I will take it easy for some time yet. This is my second ablation due to the first one being stopped due to phrenic nerve damage.

My GP identified ectopics on my Kardia when I showed him last week and said that there was no PAF at the time (I showed him the Kardia when it produced an unclassified reading). So the answer is that the Kardia can distinguish the two. The ectopics have a sort of loop-like appearance (difficult to explain in writing). If you have AF (crudely) there is no little /\ immediately before the large /\.

Very clever and effective description. The little /\ is your 'P' wave. If it is missing you are in AFIB. I have a Prince 180B. I am now in persistent AF and the waveform clearly shows I have no P wave. On good days when my pulse is very regular the monitor analysis is "No irregularities found". So on my monitor the indication is there if you know how to read the waveform but it can't do a proper automatic analysis.

I feel far more positive. The mapping system seems more effective and I am feeling much better. I seem to be in SR but I do know that I have to take it easy and, in particular, rest.

Hi how was your Ablation being sedated? I’m scheduled for an Ablation and I requested GA but all the EP’s are suggesting sedation. I’m scared of feeling everything & seeing the monitor, I just want to be asleep

Sorry, I have been away and my iPhone won't let me into the site without a password and I can't remember it. I was heavily sedated but aware of what was going on. If I felt pain I was able to tell them and they increased the drugs. The sedation means that you don't panic but are alert enough to let them know how you feel. You will very quickly, a couple of hours, feel yourself albeit very tired. Almost 6 months on I feel better than I have for years and my heart seems to be behaving itself. Still on some sotalol due to ectopics caused by phrenic nerve damage. I hope that everything goes well.
