Flecainide acetate 50 mg 2x

Dr is starting me on flecainide acetate 50 mg twice a day ..I'm nervous about side effects.anyone take these and do u have any side effects.

Are you talking about Flecainide or Amiodarone? Not heard of Flecainide damaging the thyroid.

I started on 100mg twice a day for 5 years, now 50mg twice a day. Can't take beta blockers (drops my heart rate) so did get some runs of tachycardia thus the reduction. Have only had 1 overt episode in all that time so it's a big thumbs up from me.

No. Flec is an anti arrhythmic. It does slow heart rate for some people though. Beta blockers are things like bisoprolol or nebivolol.

I was started on 2 x 50mg but it made me extremely nauseous within two days, my Dr. spoke to the cardiologist who said to reduce the flecainide to 2 x 25mg for 10 days then 1x 25 mg at night and 1 x 50mg morning for the next 10 days before resuming the original script, It worked perfectly and I've been on it for three years with no further side effects.

I had quite severe side effects for the first and really felt dreadful but my doctor persuaded me to persevere. He was right because they did help my AF enormously. Now I have no problems at all.

Hi I've been on 2x50mg daily for 11yrs and not had a single AF attack since original diagnosis. I haven't had side effects although I get plenty of ectopics and anxiety so not sure if they're side effects or symptoms of the AF.

Hi. I was put on it from mid Aug this year 100mg x 2 a day for my PAF. But is changing to sotalol starting today. I had no adverse side effects with Flec except that it has not seemed to work to put my AF at bay. In fact I have had frequent episodes of Atrial flutter and ectopics. This the change to sotalol. But yeah Flec did not make me tired, nauseous, giddy no chest or tummy pain etc. I hope it will work for you. Like others in this forum say we all react differently to the meds. All the best.

Phew - you had me worried there! I take 2 x Flecainide 5g daily and have no side effects now although it took a while to settle when I was first prescribed it. I know a lot of people take this without ill effects and it keeps the AF episodes at bay.

Hi, I’ve been on Flecainide 50mg x2 daily since mid August. Initially I had some dizziness, palpitations and odd visual disturbances whilst my body adapted to the drug, but these had all resolved by the end of Sept and I now feel great. ( Also on anticoagulant Apixaban 5 mg x 2 day).

I was diagnosed July and had a miserable few weeks on Bisoprolol which didn’t suit me, followed by an anxious couple of weeks on no treatment when I decided to see a Cardiologist privately to speed things up. All good & back under NHS care now.

I am on 150 each morning, and since I started in June I see it as my saviour......I did have side effects , but I’m not sure if it wS the Flecainade or the bisoprolol .......how can you tell unless you drop he and that’s not a brill idea eh!....

I was on Flecainide for 12 years. Original dose 50 x 2 a day which was increased over two years to 150gm x 2 a day. No side effects at all. Prevented episodes of AF.

After 12 years I was found to be in persistent asymptomatic AF.

This study may be interesting for you - I have been on that dose for 12 years no side effects and so far keeps AFIB under control.

Been on it for 12+ years after Amiodarone for a short time and Verapamil, both terrible side effects and I still had breakthrough. Started with 50 x 2, now on 100 x 2, have had a few episodes over the years but overall very good. Had to take additional 100 recently when flu jab put heart out and it worked.

I take Flecainide 50mg twice a day and (touch wood) is working for me and I am not aware of any side effects.

I started flecanaide 100mg twice per day in April. It stopped my af episodes immediately. I did have some flu like symptoms for the first 1-2 months but I rode it out and I haven't felt this good in a long time! I took flecanaide previously but I complained about the sick feeling and some visual disturbance after 3 weeks and my EP took me off. That was 3 years ago and now I wish I had stuck with it back then!

I was on Flecainide and Carvedilol for 3 years, in the third year I started to realize I was getting anxious about all sorts of things, until finally I had to cancel a flight due to being so anxious about flying (never was an issue before). I slowly came off both drugs and after a couple of months went onto Atenolol which so far (a year later now) has managed my palpitations and the arrhythmia is pretty much gone.

I also have spots on my body which feel like they are numb but I can feel when I touch them. Overall I am not sure how much this is attributed to the drugs I took BUT from reading up on Flecainide it affects sodium in your body. Sodium is also used by your body for many other functions including serotonin which affects our mood.

Flecainide is what is known as a "dirty drug" as it affects a lot of the body and is not just specific to the heart.

I have been taking on an as needed basis for several years. as needed when afib flared. The side affect that I recognized was a little blurring of my vision and a lethargic feeling. Granted I didn't take it on a daily basis, but it always brought me back into sinus rhythm. Good luck.

Flecainide was a failure according to Cardiologist and moved me to Sotalol. Sotalol is not positive for a guy who has a love life. Had an ablation after a couple of years on Sotalol. Then I had the ablation procedure and was able to stop Sotalol completely. AFIB is gone and so is the Sotalol.
