Apixaban again

Hi all

Has anyone experienced bad skin irritation and severe scalp itching as a result of the Apixaban?

Also if Apixaban acts on the platelets to thin the blood does not Aspirin just do the same?

Hi

Apixaban is no an anti platlet.

It has a different action, sorry cant remember the term and not near box! Aspirin does and is used for some heart conditions but is useless for treating AFib and Flutter.

Perhaps change to a different NOAC if you are having problems? Xx

It doesn't! No antii- coagulant is a blood thinnerand this is just a lazy way of describing them. It is a factorX antagonist not an anti platelet. It works on the clotting process on a different level to Vit K antagonist like Warfarin.

No and no. One difference is action of aspirin takes two full weeks to completely wear off - think about it.......

I take apixaban but haven't experienced the itching you describe. Perhaps you could ask to switch to one of the other DOACs (ie anticoagulant other than warfarin)? Aspirin is NOT a suitable alternative if you have AF.

Not medically trained Harrybin, but for some, aspirin can irritate the stomach and provoke bleeding.....not good!

I started Apixaban in August & had itchy scalp for a few weeks but this has now resolved.

Hi Harrybin

A bit late in responding but just thought that I would let you know that I am on Apixaban and that I have experienced bad skin irritation and severe scalp itching exactly as you describe - I just never associated this with the medication, but now I am not so sure. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to it and can only commiserate with you!

Hi mary

Have managed to overcome the problems so far

Doctor recommended shampoo did no good but

rinsing hair with diluted apple cider together with

applying a solution of Rosemary oil and Saw Palmetto

daily seems to have stopped hair coming out also

Having already been on other anticoagulants i did not consider

changing but i am on low dose Apixaban 2x2.5 mg

Hope something works for you.
