For those thinking I do not want anticoagulation here is a tale about a needle. I was due to go on our winter trip south on 29th October. Last thurs I stood on a needle that broke off in my foot. Cant operate whilst on anti coagulates(edoxaban) so stop for 48 hours . 36 hours in I have a TIA . A little strange as I stopped for 3 days pre op in June but could be that my foot was infected & that contributed. We dont know. Consequently back on the investigations & return visit for check ups trail.. I was told not to fly for 6 weeks so holiday screwed. But at least no lasting TIA effects & despite the stress & incredible pain after a nerve block no AF.

Oh my goodness! So sorry about your trip but thankfully you are ok after your TIA. Take care x

That’s a disappointing misery for you kkatz, in missing out on your trip. Hopefully, you can postpone it rather than cancelling out completely.

The good news is that the TIA has had no lasting consequences and that all the stress, worry and pain hasn’t set off your AF. Pain does have a debilitating effect though, so look after yourself well.

I agree wholeheartedly with you about anticoagulants being a vital consideration for most of us. It defeats me why some people don’t want to take anticoagulation drugs in controlled doses but are quite prepared to risk taking untested remedies in random doses instead!!

Stay well and look forward again to that holiday.

Well that was bad luck. Was there really no alternative to stopping the Edoxaban for that long for what sounds like pretty minor surgery?

Assuming your TIA was due to your carotid problems like before, do the usual guidelines even apply? Maybe if you need further surgery in the future, the TIA clinic should advise.

Not necessarily minor as embedded inside the ball of the foot with nothing showing . They didnt know how easily they would find it. No reason that the TIA was due to Carotid problem . They should have taken away all the blockage .

I was brought up with a fear of needles not being put away. That teeny slither of steel is so dangerous.

My mum wouldn’t let a needle be taken out of the sewing box without knowing it was put straight away when finished with. She would tell a story of someone kneeling on one and it travelling to their heart!

I have always treated them, and dressmaking pins, with the greatest respect.

Oh Kkats...so sorry to hear this. So good you are OK now. Yet, missing out on a trip at anytime is frustrating. When you really need one..is major. My wanderlust has been on hold despite my brave? ignorant earlier post 're dental needs vs African Safari. What's more difficult..having health issues? Having health issues interfere with desired activities?

Re "Having health issues interfere with desired activities?" It is my hubby missing out on desired activities that bothers me the most. We lawn bowl & enter competitions & play in the club leagues in winter in the Algarve. He will miss out on these . He is very good . But it is because of such a small silly thing that is frustrating. Also a bit depressing that I had been discharged from so many consultants and now back on the band wagon. Time will see.

Same thing kkatz....kind of like "referral interference" Hope all works out and you will be playing with the league this winter.
