Just heard that when you have the node ablation they do not totally
destroy the av node but leave it capable of some function.
Is this true ?.

That is how I understand it but I'm sure that someone who has had it done will comfirm
My AV node ablation in my left atrium
Has made me totally reliant on my two lead pacemaker...
But I also have heart failure
💓
That is not entirely correct according to my understanding. The fact is that all cardiac muscle cells have the abilty to beat without intervention so even if the PM failed you would not die. Your heart rate would likely be down in the 30s meaning that you could not do much but it would continue beating until a replacement PM was fitted.
Hi, I had an AV node ablation almost 4 months ago. (I already had the pacemaker for 6 years for Tachybrady with Afib.) Things were not that great for the first 2 months but once I got a more precise setting at the Pacemaker Clinic a month ago things have been much better. It had something to do with the coordination of the sensing of the atrial lead when I would go into Afib. I’m 100% dependant on pacing of the ventricle but i still have sensing and pacing at times with the atria.
I’ve also been taking magnesium taurate which may be lessening the amount of Afib. And I was told that my natural escape beat is in the forties. Hopefully that all holds over the long run. Wishing you the best.
