Ablation advice please

Hi Folks, (I'm new to the site). I'm wondering if anyone has some advice for me. I did have permanent A-Fib before having an Ablation a year ago. The op' went well and my A-Fib disappeared on the whole leaving only occasional Ectopics, (that drive me nuts!).

Things were going well until 5/6 weeks ago when my A-Fib returned much faster than normal. My heart basically went a bit potty for a few days before calming down into Sinus with the help of regular Flecainide. I'm been ok since then. I have the offer of a second Ablation in the relatively near future. Would you accept the offer to get it done 'soonish' or wait and see if the symptoms return again before committing? I'd appreciate your comments.

Many of us have had a series of ablations because AF returns after a first so it is not unusual to be offered a second, third or even fourth if it is thought that ablation would be helpful.

Only you could answer you question ‘would you go for it’. We all have different circumstances so my question back is what makes you hesitate and not just ‘go for it’? That it may still come back again? The first procedure had complications? That the chances of success are low?

What are your concerns in other words, with that information we may be able to comment.

Need to be brief cos I’m just about to go on holiday! If your first ablation was a cryoablation then I would definitely consider a second because it is not unusual for the balloon to miss parts of the tissue in the pulmonary veins which can cause the rogue impulses to occur. I would be guided by my EP, especially if you have confidence in him/her and their ability but let’s see what others on the forum suggest......

I was always told that if you are symptomatic then early rather than later. Why go through the anguish of waiting.

Personally I think I'd wait but we're all different. I had my ablation in 2014 and it's been great, but I do now occasionally have AF return when I get an infection. My EP has offered to operate on it but I'm in two minds on it as the new flu jab is supposed to be much better than last year's one.
