Gas and bloating

Has anyone suffered from extreme bloating after an ablation. I suffered from gastric stasis as a complication, meaning that system basically shut down. Could it be related to the Vagus nerve being damaged/irritated? 3.5 weeks on and recovery going well, back at work part-time but falling asleep late afternoon.

We do mention this in our fact sheet on Recovering from Ablation. It is not uncommon and can be down to quite a few different things. Your recovery sounds on track.

Thanks, I think they damaged it on taking the drain out causing the stasis. Inevitable I suppose that it will take time to sort itself out. However I am happy with my recovery apart from this. Your comments appreciated as always.

No in my case, but there are several references to this online

I had a lot of heartburn etc after mine. It settled eventually but 5 years later, no AF but still prone to gas/bloating and I do think related to vagus nerve. I now eat fruit and yogurt for breakfast, no bread in morning and have started drink kefir. This has helped but not gone away.

Thanks for the information, glad you are doing well with no AF.

Hi Gordon, after my cryo ablation I found that after any meal other than breakfast I would just go to sleep while my food was digested. This didnt last for more than a few weeks and I put it down to the fact that my diaphragm went into spasm during the procedure. No problems now.

All the best. Jackie.
