Apixiban Forgotten

Hi I’m new here, had a very successful ablation a month ago and getting back to an active normal life. I’ve come to Cornwall for a week and forgot to pack my apixiban, do I go back and get it, 7hr round trip, or not worry about it for 5 days?

Thanks

See if you can get an emergency supply where you are, shouldn’t be too difficult. If you find a Pharmacist who has some in stock, you or the pharmacist could ring your GP surgery and ask them to email a script over to them. I know I did that when in Spain and someday posted recently about something similar in this UK.

Personally I wouldn’t chance more than 24 hours without taking but try not to put yourself through the trip.

Do you have your apixaban card that comes in the carton? You could try getting another prescription locally. I wouldn’t like to be without it for a week, particularly considering your recent ablation.

I agree with CDreamer. getting some locally should not be difficult and going without should not be an option.

The only thing I would add is to try a hospital pharmacy if local ones have a problem supplying......

Yes. Agree with the rest. Try and get it from the local or hospital pharmacy. Best that you don’t go without. Hope you’ll get them soon.

If you cannot get from a pharmacy, find out where the nearest GP surgery is. I had to do this once you have to fill in a form and wait to see a doctor who will then give you a prescription. Also if you have a walk in centre near where you are staying would help.

Don't risk not taking it for five days! A stroke or heart attack would certainly ruin your holiday! I was in a similar position last year with all of my cardiac meds and a local pharmacist was able to give me an emergency supply after speaking to my gp surgery

Hi Thankyou for all your advice, and thanks to St Mawes pharmacy who have ordered an emergency supply after getting instruction from my GP. Very reassuring to know you’re all out there!

Thanks

Funnily enough I had just returned from GP surgery and read a large notice on the entrance door “ON HOLIDAY - forgotten your meds? Here is what to do..........”.

Live in Devon, it happens frequently.

Living in a holiday town I used to see a lot of people at my GP's surgery in that position. Now they tell them to go to the Walk in Centre at the station.
