Apixiban Heartburn

I have been taking Apixiban for 3 years now with no great problem. Recently (last couple of months) my chemist (Boots) have changed from Elquis to Sandoz Apixiban. This may be a coincidence but since starting the Sandoz I have started suffering from Heartburn. I am interested to know from primarily those taking Apixiban if they have had any similar experiences. Many thanks in advance of responses

I have always had some degree of heartburn and gastric reflux and have had a myriad of different Apixaban brands and not noticed any difference. I take other meds which are more likely to cause heartburn so what I have learned is to read the instructions inside the packet of HOW to take each medication and Apixaban says to take with water - make that at least half a glass, not just a swig.

My heartburn these days is only in the middle of the night and wakes me up and so my dilemma is - do I raise the head of the bed and suffer the consequential back ache the following morning or risk being woken with the heartburn, have to get up and find a Gaviscon, drink a glass of water and sit upright for 30 minutes - there are just some you can’t win! Mostly I go for raising the head of the bed as I can stretch and walk out the back ache.

Sounds as if you might benefit from a Proton Pump Inhibitor (Omeprazole/Lansoprazole) to stop your gastric reflux.

note if you are on a Mg supplement for AF, a PPI can alkanize gastric fluids and reduce absorption of Mg.

To avoid the acid I get with the medication. I take a spoonful of yoghurt and drink ginger tea before or after I take it helps a lot for me.

Thank you. I've been taking Kefir with it recently and it seems to help

Pfizer Eliquis gave me heartburn, so I changed back to Xeralto (Bayer)

I’ve noticed absolutely no difference whichever brand of apixaban I’m given, and I’ve had a few!

I have been taking generic Apixaban by Sandoz ( Hemapix) for the past 6 months and have not experienced any heartburn or other side effects. Maybe if you persevere for a while longer your body will get used it. Take care.
