Tooth removal with Rivaroxaban

Hi

Can anyone help? I have broken a tooth. This tooth has broken before and I was advised that next time it would have to be removed (the whole of the back is missing). The problem is the appointment is for Sept 20th and I leave for India on Sept 28th. I am in no pain and really want a temporary fix. I take rivaroxaban and have been having lots of eptopics/palpitations this summer (ecg and blood test tomorrow).

My questian is: If the dentist says the tooth must come out now will it heal in a week? I am afraid of pain and worry that the whole idea of removing the tooth will cause more palpitations. I really don't want to cancel this trip!

These days having a tooth out bears no resemblance to the trauma of years gone by with all the equipment dentists have at their disposal. I find it less traumatic than a filling!

If you do go ahead follow the instructions your dentist gives you ...usually lots of salted warm water mouth washes and you should be fine. Alternatively have a word with your dentist now and see if he can put a further temporary fix on to tide you over until your return from India. Don't spoil the anticipation of your trip by worry especially if you are not in pain

Hi. This happened to me recently and I take Rivaroxaban too. As I take it with my evening meal, my appointment for the extraction was moved to the afternoon before my next dose. There was no excessive bleeding and it all healed up very quickly. It all went very smoothly and I say this as someone with a serious fear of dental treatment!!

I should add that I chose to have the extraction done at a surgery where I could opt for sedation ~ this calmed my anxiety ahead of the extraction ~ although on the day I was brave enough to go with just local anaesthetic and there was no pain at all.

So please don’t worry as pain and bleeding will be minimal

Thanks. That's reassuring. This molar is so weak I imagine it disintegrating when the dentist tries to remove it. Sedation sounds great!

I had a tooth out - and complicated procedure- with no problem at Guys last week. No pain afterwards- you just have to keep it very clean while healing. I stayed on my Apixaban too

Please don't put off your holiday, I expect you have been looking forward to it , I am the biggest coward when it comes to dentist , heart all over the place, today will be hopefully the last of 5 appointments , with the dreaded dental person , which started with a wisdom tooth extraction , which gave me hell , the pulling out was nothing and the recovery easy peasy , within a week was a lot better , as a previous , said, salt mouth washes etc, when you go in just try and focus on something, what you are going to prepare for tea tonight , or have you got too many clothes in your suitcase for your holiday , or not enough? , keep your eyes closed if you like , I always do , take nice deep breaths , and will soon be done , and if you have some rescue remedy even better, good luck x

Thanks so much. I have a temporary reprieve, but am less stressed about the extraction after all the reassurance I've received.

You might ask your dentist about a temporary crown; it would go over the broken tooth, and keep infection out of the tissue beneath. They're usually good for a few weeks. Then you could have your extraction when you return.

Thanks. I actually saw the dentist yesterday and requested just that. She put what she called a 'plaster' on it to protect it until I get back.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I don't even feel traumatised about the extraction when it eventually happens.
