Does anyone take this med and have feet and leg swelling in the heat???? I sit at a desk all day and try to get up and move around... but not always possible. I also take Xarelto :( due to AFIB and hole in my heart..... but since taking the Diltiazem ....seems to be worse. obvious fear is CHF :( but have read posts about how this med makes you swell.....

Calcium channel blockers such as diltiezem are known to cause this in some people. For me it was a nightmare and I only ever took about three pills before refusing any more.

AF means trying lots of different drugs before you find the right combination.

I take it and have AF and HF but I am fine with it - they were concerned when they put me on it because it can cause fluid retention. See your GP or cardio and get it changed.

I was in Rhodes last October and i had just increased to 200mg daily and my legs did swell up in the sun. You have to be careful with sunburn too - you burn more easily.

Anyway when I came back home after a week or so the swelling disappeared. Whether it was owing to the cold, lack of sun or just as my body had adjusted I do not know.

It also became apparent that 200mg was too high a dose for me owing to other side effects I had. That overdose too can be a factor. If you have been on diltiazem previously with no issues I would give it a couple of weeks to settle, or discuss with your doctor about the dose level.

My main problems were brain fog, tiredness and exercise intolerance. I did try 120mg for a short while and that was a lot better but owing to a missed flecainide tablet causing a problem with AF I was put back to 200Mg.

I had an ablation and I am not on diltiazem now.

Hope this helps

the heat and sun do make it worse or just walking around in the heat here in Texas...I've been on it for a while, but when they increased it to 300mg it really got bad :( hopefully they will change me soon.

thanks!!!!!!!

I had to come off diltiazem because of the swelling. There are others to try.

Sounds like it's too much , I definitely would not like 300mg!

I empathise with you . I take diltiezem but it does the same with my feet. I found that by taking 800mg of hawthorne berry that I do not have the swelling and it makes by heart rate and bp lower due to the effects it has on the heart. If i forget and stop taking for about a day or so, swelling comes back.

there are some interaction with such drugs as digoxin in that it enhaces the effectivenes of the drugs action so less is need. I had digoxin and took half the dose when I first started hawthorne berry. It's been over a year since I've taken Digoxin. The hawthorne berry doe sit for me. check it out.

Good luck
