13 days post ablation for me. The migraine aura visual show stopped 3 days ago now. I am just finding I am getting tired. I run out of steam early in the day, and sleep like a log. My husband said I am in such a deep sleep that he is checking I am breathing. I am curious as to why this procedure would make me tired. I can understand why I was tired from previous surgeries where I had body parts removed but I can’t understand why I would be tired from this. No general antiseptic / no major incisions / no body parts removed etc..... can anyone explain to me what a ablation does to the body? Or should I be going back to doctor for a checkup?

13 days post ablation- tiredness
Hi... I felt really tired for several weeks after my ablation which was 9 weeks ago... I still get tired now but not so often and my recovery is quicker... your heart had a lot of work done on it - so of course it’s going to need time to heal - so don’t worry about feeling tired and rest as much as possible! It will help with the healing process and hopefully will stop the afib returning! Take care... 🌻
This tiredness is not uncommon.
Just because you don’t have a great big scar your heart has probably been burnt about 100 times on the inside and as a consequence needs to heal. Indeed it is the scarring that slowly takes place that is going to help with your AF.
For you it really is early days. It will take some time for you to regain your stamina.
In my case I often felt like one of those Duracell bunnies (other batteries are available 😀) in the TV advert. I woke each morning full of energy and by 11:00 was totally exhausted.
Take it slowly and do increase your activity as your body allows as by being more active you will gradually get better.

I can’t explain in detail but I quote Bob - ‘just because you haven’t got a zip down your chest doesn’t mean you haven’t had a major, invasive procedure.’ Also download and read the AFA ‘recovery from ablation’. Written by patients who have been through this NOT doctors!
The inside of your heart has been burned. Sleep is your body’s natural and normal way of healing as it is only in deep sleep that the body repairs itself.
You expect too much, too soon and EP’s don’t tell you just how long it takes. For me 67 year old female it took a long time. Think months, not weeks and take it slow and steady and allow 8-10 hours to sleep per day.
My ablation was Jan 31, 2018. I am an active person and I still have a few days that I just need to stop and rest or actually take a good nap or I am wiped out the next day. Looking back I probably pushed myself too hard and did not realize how hard this is on your heart and body. Diffenately agree with quality sleep and rest to heal. I am 60, female and on no meds (thank goodness) and have had only 1 episode since my surgery on my 6-month surgery anniversary date that lasted about 4 hours. Best to you always!
I am pre-ablation but have been told to expect to experience extreme moments of tiredness. I think we just have to listen to our bodies and trust they are telling us what to do to get better. Get plenty of rest and take care.
Remember your heart has been lasered many times and it will take a time to heal and work properly. I have seen posts on here that it takes 3-5 months to heal. Get well soon. It is early days.
I had my ablation in March, was told to stop the flecainide and now the palpitations/missed beats have returned, but thankfully not the irregular tachycardia which was an uneven 240-250
All the best
