Hi all first time to post here so hope I was put on apixaban 9 months ago after a TIA I also suffer with paroximal AF and COPD
i have been undergoing tests for liver problems I'm due to have a liver biopsy this month I am being told I must stop apixaban 5 days before procedure at firstl I was told 48 hours I had started to leave the doses of then was told first procedure was to be cancelled because i needed 5 days of them everything I read says 48 hours including nice guidelines. I don't feel comfortable leaving it off for 5 days has anyone else had to leave them off five days seems a long time to me. and really worried

I think the best person to ask is the Doctor performing the procedure.
Advice given to cease taking an anticoagulant at a particular time is usually with regard to preventing bleeding but my guess is in this instance it may be to clear your liver of all traces of medication in order to get a 'clean' biopsy .
I wonder if it might be worth calling your cardiologist for advice or reassurance? My father was on Warfarin for many years due to mechanical valve replacement, and had several operarions for other things, had to come off warfarin for varying times prior to these. He had to have clopidrel injections instead.
As doodle said though it may be they want a drug free system?
I would want to ask questions myself,so I understand your feelings!
I would also recommend checking with your cardiologist. I was off anticoagulants for 2 days before my recent ablation (as instructed) and a clot formed in my heart so they couldn’t proceed.
thank you for replying i am not under a cardiologist anymore just put on medication for a fib and that was that .it seems to be the ultrasound dept, that do the liver biopsy is saying 5 days off .
