I had an ablation for a fib in March this year and my rhr is high. I am taking meds and to keep it down I am taking meds (metoprolol) more and more and the meds are taking longer to be effective. I am scared because I am 85. Any feedback, suggestions.

Hi Kuska,
Breathe calmness because you will find many people on here have had an ablation and still getting through healing after many months. You will be OK. Don’t be afraid. It will be alright. You may just need more time for healing. Get reassurance from your EP doctor by asking questions such as if you need another ablation. Sometimes it take 2-3 tries. You won’t regret it if you do need another one going by what others have stated. 85 is the new 50! You will be ok. Many people dislike too much medicine, but we are now living longer and stronger because of some of these drugs. These drugs that help one issue sometimes cause other issues-and that can be troubling- but comforting to have them when needed . Digital hug to you and I do hope things settle down more.🙂
Have you seen your EP since the ablation? I would suggest you call secretary and ask for an urgent appointment. You need honest answers from your EP about the best way forward - trying different meds or another ablation.
Hi Kuska
You have got the pills, now you need to ask yourself 'have I made the lifestyle changes that this affliction seems to require'. The usual suspects are alcohol, strong coffee, lack of gentle exercise and weight management. Some people will add sleep apnea and dietary content. If you have a dig around on this site you will find lots of suggestions for you to think about.
