Being no medical expert I would seek advice from your doctor. If its only in the morning have they checked out your nose for example. Fluid can trikle from your nose down to your throat when lying on your back. Something is happening so the Docs are the ones to see.
Hi Charles. Blood coming from anywhere it's not supposed to be must be checked thoroughly by a competent doctor and not just given a 'guesswork' prescription. Especially if the source seems internal. Bleeding from a scraped knee is not a problem; bleeding from somewhere in your esophagus/ larynx/ GI tract can be very serious. You also mentioned voice changes. Get it seen to sooner rather than later. I had larynx cancer when I was 39 (now 74) was not a smoker. My primary doctor said my voice hoarseness was from stress and gave me a prescription for Valium. Didn't sound right but I was still operating under the assumption that doctors knew best. I was very lucky as I was an operating room nurse and a couple of days later happened to be assigned to a room with scheduled ear, nose, throat surgery. (The Universe watching out for me!) The resident came in while I was setting up and asked what was wrong with my voice. I said stress. He said 'No, its not 'and between cases called a physician himself and set up an appt. 5 days later I was having surgery for larynx cancer and am here to tell the tale. I don't mean to scare you but in my opinion I would see an Ear nose Throat specialist asap. Please do and let me know how it turns out. I'm worried for you, Take care of yourself. irina

PS. Charles, I just re-read your post and wanted to add 2 things. Dark blood is usually considered 'older'bleeding source-possibly coming from further down your G.I. tract. Recent bleeding would be a brighter red. Could the blood you see possibly be reflux coming from your stomach? Also are you on anticoagulants of any kind? Or do you take frequent NSAID meds for pain (motrin, ibuprofen, aleve, aspirin etc?) Too many questions here to be solved by a prescription. Take care. irina
Thank you very much for your answer Irina.I am taking just Remeron(sleeping pills)plus esomaprezole.I am very worried. The doctors here are useless.I don't know where to go what to do.
Hi Charles. Please don't panic. You have time to find the care you need. I just don't want you travelling around the mulberry bush with doctors that are just guessing and have no clue. If I were you I would make an appt with an Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist and skip the GP's. The ENT doctors deal with these problems and will know what to do. That is the specialty that took care of me. It was my GP that thought the problem would be fixed by Valium! I believe you'll do fine. Keep me posted and PM me if you have any questions. Thinking of you and hoping you find a good doctor soon. I think the bleeding might be coming from your stomach as it is dark and probably works its way up to your mouth via reflux when you are sleeping. Just my opinion. (Ignore the italics-just my lack of computer skills prob pushed a wrong button. Take care. irina PS I'm in the US-Atlanta)

Me again" Charles just focus on getting an Ear Nose Throat consult and the doctor will let you know what to do next-step by step. He/she will probably order some lab work and probably some other tests to see where the bleeding is coming from. I believe everything will turn out fine. You need to get to the bottom of the bleeding and the ENT docs will do this. Easy for me to say 'relax', isn't it!😊 irina Also esomaprosole over here is called Nexium and it can sometimes cause side effects like coughing, watery or bloody diarrhea ,dizziness, nausea. Hopefully maybe just stopping the drug might correct your bleeding. But that is what the doctor will decide. Meanwhile, when you call for an appt I would ask if you should stop this drug until you see the doctor. Very important to clarify whether you should continue this med or not while waiting to be seen.
Happy Sunday morning, Charles. I don't feel it's cancer as there are many other benign conditions that can cause bleeding and can be fairly easily rectified with proper diagnosis and treatment. But that is for the doctor to decide-not me.When we lose blood it's important to know why, how much, and how fast. Many times we can find the source and it can be treated medically without surgery. Don't let your mind run away with 'what ifs'. Just make your appt and start the ball rolling. You could also choose to see a specialist called a Gastroenterologist but in my experience they move quicker to more invasive tests throughout the G. I. tract. Since your bleeding seems more in your mouth and possibly just below you may not need all that. If the ENT specialist feels further investigation is necessary he will refer you. (I know about creating a lot of 'what if' scenarios when I'm sick. I'm an expert!!) Take care. irina
This is a good sign as larynx, esophageal cancers tend to be of the slow-growing type. So of you had a negative scope 3 months ago you are probably fine in this area, Once again, it is for the doctor to say but I wanted to try to relieve your mind a little. It's still important to make your appt soon. The sooner we find the source of our medical problems the easier and less invasive treatment often is. irina
Hi Charles. Re your endoscopy question. I would leave that for your consulting doctor to recommend. It may not be necessary at first as the doctor might want to try lesser invasive treatment to stop the bleeding. It might be something simple and readily apparent without much testing needed. But if it were me I would talk your options over with your doctor and follow his advice if it makes sense to you. You always have the option of a second opinion if you don't feel comfortable with a specific doctor. Listen to your gut feeling. But please take the first step and see a doctor soon. Take care. irina
My doctor doesn't know what to do.He is saying to have endoscopy .He is saying is reflux.I can't sleep in the night time.Coughing and coughing Tonight I will go to the hospital to emergency dept.I am very depressed Thank you Irina.A personal question :your background is romanian?Mine is. Charles
