Hi, it took me a good 4 or 5 months to get back up to speed after my ablation. Not helped by Betablockers though, they really slow you down. When I take 1.25mg bisoprolol it takes me 4 minutes longer to walk a mile

Lol What's that for exactly

It’s a calcium channel. Keeps my heart rate at a steady 60-62 even when exercising.

Hi Vonnie :-) that answer I find is 'little and often ' short brisk walks to help build and maintain your stamina .

Thanks for the little laugh this message I did made .

It's good to not always chat about the serious part of all our conditions

They say laughter is a medicine in its self

Some may think they don't know what's hit the forum since I joined and to those I apologise lol

Apologies not needed when you make people laugh, as you say it's good to laugh.

Yep... your speed will come back. When the wife tells you to slow down that's the sign. Don't push yourself but also try to maintain a steady pace and gradually increase distance. I've found that walking to help fitness levels is a different mind set to walking for pleasure. Good luck.

Thanks it's a completely different mind set to what I'm use to I'm use to being on the go 12 hours at least a day with my job.Which I can't do at moment

Indeed and most probably therein lies the problem. You will need to adapt the way you are, not change because you cannot change your fundamental psyche. Focuse on getting well, taking the advise of medical professionals and get back to doing your fantastic vocation working with your dementia sufferers. Make it so and good luck.

Thank you I'm thinking about part time and stepping down from senior Doing three lots of medications a day Dealing with doctors social workers Chasing up Meds etc may now be too much along with can plans to write assessments to do and staff to deal with along with those above me Care doesn't have time for residents now it's all about making sure paper work is done

I used to be able to walk an insanely fast speed without really thinking about it. It used to be a mile between home and work I could cover that in a little over 15 minutes when I got my head down and went brisk.

Now I live half a mile closer to work, it still takes me 15 minutes. Not sure if that's cos I don't have to rush, because the knee is well and truly jiggered, or the last 2 years have been Cardio-unstable! :D
