Morning all!

Good lengthy chat yesterday with very pleasant consultant .He was very pleased with my status, having only had 2 minor episodes post ablation for AF and Flutter, but much less pleased that I had been told to stop all meds in order to widen scope for back pain meds. Within.a few hours was in AF for over 24 hours

There was a definite drawing of breath!

When I told him I had refused to stop Apixaban he praised me and said always stand your ground there. He said it can be stopped for short periods with reasonable risk element for most people, but for longer periods,it has to be a joint planning between cardio team and other.medics.

He asked me who had told me and I said GP. 'Very ill advised ,he said. Should make interesting reading on the report of our conversation today!'

He was glad I had put myself back on flec and biso straight away. He said no gp should ever alter cardio meds without prior checking with that team.

As I had that episode I am to remain on current dosing until May,then reduce by half ,prior to next checkup in June. Then half for 6 months, then hopefully none.

He said it is increasingly being thought that stopping meds either immediately or even at 3 months ,is too soon for many peoples hearts to maintain nsr. In his words ' nsr begets nsr,and af begets af' thus making ablation less successful and needing redoing.

Interesting!

If I do get any episodes, even briefly to note it. Possible touch up if needed,as I would be a great candidate.

We talked about why no sedation was given.

Reason was, they prefer patients to be under GA or not sedated. The twilight zone of in between can affect their work due to response differences he said. If a patient is clearly nervous or anxious they do it though, for obvious reasons!

But mine was 'textbook' ,he said all veins were 'lovely'(?!) And completely isolated. He said we get a 'warm fuzzy feeling' when it goes like this as they know it has a great chance of success.

So all in all,one very happy bunny!

After all the whittering and wondering,a nice Christmas pressie.

The bitten tongue was pretty spectacular, caught coat pocket in door handle, travelling at speed through kitchen, whipped me off my feet and onto tiles! Huge black bruise on tongue, blood everywhere, but settling down nicely. Warm salty washes and bonjela.

Nothing to do with tile licking CD lol!!!

Thank you for your best wishes.

Take care out there chaps and chapesses!

Good news who was the consultant. My GPS pharmist want to review my medication the rivaroxaban but only had my 1st ablation in November so reluctant to change anything at the moment. I have an appointment in March with my consultant so I'm only going to take the EP advice not a pharmist.

That sounds excellent. Hope your tongue gets better quickly. I thought I was the only person to battle with pockets/sleeves and door handles…

Sounds like you have a great consultant. I changed my cardiologist as the first one nice though he was it just wasn't working.

How encouraging to have a conversation like that. Yes, I hope he puts repeats what he said in the letter to the GP!

My toes are curling at the description of your tongue. When my daughter was a toddler she bit her tongue badly and there was blood everywhere. I pass out at the sight of blood and so I had her in my arms and kept her head looking over my shoulder until I got help. We took her to hospital and she wouldn't open her mouth and the emergency doctor said 'Is her tongue hanging off?' It wasn't but she had a wide gash in the middle and her tongue is scarred to this day!

He sounds like an excellent consultant. It probably isn’t possible to swap consultant now, but you could express a preference to work with him for follow-ups etc.. All seems off to a really good start.
