Dronederone, side effects and experiences

I have been prescribed 400mg bd, but need more information about this toxic drug before ‘ trying’ it as my Cardiologist blighthly stated, they done not seem to understand the bad times we go thro initiating a new med, at the same time as abruptly stopping an old one.

I would appreciate any first hand knowledge on a day to day basis, good and bad experiences. Many thanks

Tudee if you put Dronederone in the search box - top right of page - you will get a list of all the posts about it.

Sorry I can’t help you - all I know is that it was supposed to be the wonder drug to replace Amiodarone - but it wasn’t.

Sorry I meant Dronedarone - there are about 300 posts about it so you should get some good info.

On an iPhone the ‘Search’ is under the “More”.... drop down box see if it is there.

I will check my wife’s IPad later.

I have been on Dronedarone in the very early days and had no adverse side effects. This was prior to my 3rd ablation...i think !

As you probably know the drug was introduced about 9 years ago and was designed to match the efficacy of Amiodarone but with a better safety profile particularly with regard to Iodine which was omitted in this drug.

Unfortunately it was a bit of a damp squib and did not live up to expectations.

It is important thst your liver function is tested regularly whilst taking Dronedarone. It obviously works for some. I wouldn't worry unduly , just be aware of the testing that will be needed

Also if I recall correctly certain statins are contraindicated when taking this drug.

Thankyou Sandra, It clearly didn’t work for you, it’s such a personal thing, although we can share our experiences, each med will be personal to each person.

I think that the number of replies you have had to this posts suggests that Dronederone is not prescribed anything like as often as Flecainide and Ameoderone.

Yes I see that Pete, my pharmacist told me it’s not found in community pharmacies, prescribed only by Consultants, and dispensed by hospitals.I have found lots of bunff on it, still don’t want to take it, I feel it’s overkill, I read of a 70 yr woman who had to have a liver transplant after being on it for only 3 months. I prefer the disease to the cure I think.

Yes it sounds like a case of the “cure” being worse than the condition.

It is a shame that you don’t get the relief from Flecainide. Although I have had to have 7 ablations I still take Flecainide to control my AF. I have been more stable for the past 8 months since my last ablation.

Maybe you should consider a second opinion. I think if I were in your shoes I too would not want to take this drug.

No Flecainide with my Bisop acts as an arrhythmic Pete, apart from the liver worry, there’s Organising Pnuemonia, gee all those little extras, who couldn’t want to try it. Alas there is only one Cardiologist in my area, and getting an appointment outside the area would take months. Hey ho. Many thanks.Dee
