Hi! I have been taking Metoprolol for AFIB and blood pressure. I am currently taking 100 mg 2X per day. My blood pressure is really good (taking Amlodipine along with the Meto..), also taking 100 mg Propafenone per day for AFIB. I dont have a lot of energy and I find that I am sleepy all the time. I have also gained considerable weight, and find it difficult to exercise. Has anyone had any of these issues? Are there any other meds which any of you could recommend. I am finding that things are more likely to improve if I am able to make some suggestions to my doctors.

Hello mate,Welcome to the club no one wants to get membership.
I agree with Jean, this is really a hefty dose. I take Metolrolol myself since 4 years now. 50mg 1x a day in the morning. Yeah it can get you tired but so far I cope.
Best talk to the doc, maybe he can reduce the dose. He will know best.
I did change my diet, very little salt intake, more plant based, helps to control the weight gain.
Proafenone has done dangerous side effects. Your dose of Metoperol is high and any beta blockers can cause tiredness and depression. Dofetilide is a far hsafer drug long term than profernone, Entresto may be a better drug to replace the Amlodipine and give you added benefits. Call your EP to get an appointment to discuss all this, Best etheral
Thank you etheral,Those are exactly the reasons that I am concerned about all of these type medications. As soon as receive my Mg, I'm co ml completely stopping that med (i have stopped 2/3 of it) and I'm not having any AFIB episodes. I thank you for your input.
I take 75mg metoprolol once a day, it does make you tired. As others have stated, your dosage is very high.
And as someone also stated, best to consult with your doctor. You mentioned you find it best to offer suggestions which I agree. My doctor offered me dialitizem (Antiarrhythmic drug) which I have not yet tried.
Another suggestion may be to lower the metoprolol and take a blood pressure drug like lisinopril for your blood pressure.
But again, very important to consult with your doctor.
Mav7,Thank u so much. I think dosage is too also. I u know ed to take 100 mg per day, but due to bp issues, they increased it. I didnt like but I decided to try it anyway. I used to take Loprel which is a combination of Amlodipine and Lisinopril, but my potassium was difficult to control so my GP dropped it after my suggestion. My drs appear not to be eager to make big changed in my bp meds. I think I need to start over. I find that I am more and more treating myself. Just reading, studying, and then make suggestions. My ex EP was great but I lost him when he re located 2 hrs away. I have talked to him, and I think he will take me on as a patient. I'm thinking more and more about going back to him. Actually he did my ablation several years ago and it was ver y successful. I trust him a lot. He told me that regulating bp is much easier that most drs will admit.
Anyway, thank you and all the oth er rs who have weighed on this.
I’m taking 50 mg x 1 time per day. No Bp meds. Experiencing nausea tiredness weight gain and lightheadedness. Currently have cough after bout of bronchitis. Cough lingering going in to 4th week. Cough meds abate it. BP 113/57 after morning dose of metoprolol. I gather in reading others share some of these same symptoms. What can you do to overcome?
