Tomorrow I am going to start on 20 mgs per day of Xarelto, one of the three new anticoagulation medications. Up until now I have been taking 100 mgs of Aspirin daily.
Apart from the fact that there is no antidote for it in the event of internal bleeding, I think that this change will be for the better.
I would be be interested to hear about the experience of others particularly in terms of side effects.
No side effects so far after 6 months on it. Much better than Rivaxoban in my opinion.
I think you'll find that they are one and the same. Xarelto is simply the brand name for rivaroxaban.
My mistake, it was dagibatran I was taking before

Hi I have been on Xarelto 11 months now and to date no side or ill effects. Cut myself a couple of time and bleeding stopped as normal and healed up nicely. Xarelto is Rivaroxabn by another name. xarelto.com/

After 5 months of Xarelto I have no side effects to report. My concern about a lack of antidote was overcome by the conversation with my cardiologist - reassurance is part of the therapy so don't hesitate to voice concerns - this support group is an excellent forum to achieve reasurance - thank you to all who post here it has certainly helped me - and saved the medical teams from many hours of anxious enquiry -think of the cash value that has and savings to NHS and private healthcare providers.
Only problem with Xarelto is the tiny size of the pill- once dropped they can be hard to find. Worrying if you have a pet or child in the house!

Great response, thanks. Paranoia may be a little strong but I have had some concerns which are mainly dispelled now. Now I will probably more worried about a pill rolling under the fridge.
I've had no side effects from the Xarelto, while I did have some GI discomfort on the Pradaxa. And just because there is no one antidote in case of bleeding, does not mean there are not protocols in place to stop bleeding. Try not to worry and be well.
When I was first put on Xarelto 30mg after they found a blot clot in my heart with my AFib, I did after two weeks have blood in my urine, stools and bad stomach pain. They took me off for a week, and it stopped but I needed to be on it to do an cardioversion, 20 mg turned out to be fine...4 months now and I have been fine on it. Cut myself once or twice with no problem...
I too am on Xarelto 15mg a day apart from the odd nose bleed and a bit of bleeding from gums which has now stopped its ok
Unfortunately taking rivaroxaban was a bit of a disaster for me. I had bleeding firstly from my ear after about three weeks, then I had nose bleed along with swollen lips with large blisters , but worst of all I had bleeding/bruises under my nails - very painful and my nails became detached from the nail bed - very painful. Am now being changed over to apixaban hopefully this will be more successful. I was on 75mg aspirin for 18 years with no problems

Hi- I was wondering how you were doing with Xarelto. I was put on it 5 days ago (from 625mg aspirin) after having a stroke due to AF. I'm experienced bad low back pain, especially bothers me at night. Also some stomach pain which seems a bit better and wheezing (especially annoying at night). I can handle everything, but the back pain is getting to me. I plan to wait through the week-end, then I guess call my doc. I'm hoping that my body will adjust and symptoms will get better. Did it end up working ok for you? Hope so!
How is the Xarelto going?
I think the size of the pills is ridiculous.
They are too tiny to handle, and flesh colored, so difficult to see.
Sometimes I cannot tell if I have swallowed it, or if it is still lodged in my mouth.
They need to double the size of the pill.
The star shape sucks.
I have had zero side effects on the Xarelto. And just because there is not one single drug that is a reversal agent does not mean that there are not strategies to reverse a bleed if it should occur. It is just a different approach.
Glad to hear most of these comments, cardiologist said we could discuss which anti - coag I wanted to go on so I said 'you choose' and Xarelto it is!
I have been taking Xarelto for three months now,no problem,but still very concerned about no Antedote so far,although Cardiologist said they are getting nearer everyday,fingers crossed it will be soon.
I was also told by Cardiologist to take tablet every day with a main meal,I
Chose evening dinner,as I take all my other medication in the morning,this works for me,and put it beside my plate,take it with water before taking my meal to the table,never forget to do this,If I,m going out to eat,I take the whole strip with me ,put it in my spec case,as I will be using these to see the menu!!
