I have been on Rivaroxaban for a few years without any problems. I was prescribed Apixaban but had to revert to Rivaroxaban as it gave me symptoms of indigestion and abdominal discomfort. Probably worth seeing your our GP or your Consultant. I am not aware of Rivaroxaban causing weigh gain but worth discussing. Hope you can get things sorted quickly.
Are you on any other medication?
Only eye drops for Uveitis from time to time
Oh, I have gained weight and put it down to my insomnia and snacking (not sweets or crisps as I happen not to like them, but maybe toast and/or a boiled egg - during the night). Could it be Rivaroxaban? Also, I am feeling wiped out (exhausted) most of the time! I know, lack of sleep, but when I do fall asleep (when most people are waking up), and then wake up - I feel shattered! Could this also be due to Rivaroxaban?
I don't know about the weight gain, but I experienced all the other symptoms when taking rivaoxaban.
Hi. I am on apixaban and find it hard
Losing weight. Feeling tired and exhausted all the time and waking after 2 hrs sleep and having trouble getting back to sleep. With luck I manage an other 2hrs from 7.00 to 9.00 am .I am taking magnesium taurate but it doesn't make any difference. Still hoping that it will get better some day
Hi
I seem to be having the opposite problem.
I have been on rivaroxaban 20mg for 8 weeks. In that time my appetite has disappeared and I have lost 9lbs. I wasn’t overweight before so this is really worrying me. I was on bisoprolol 5mg but had to stop that because of the side effects and I have had to stop my atorvastatin 40mg because I was developing peripheral neuropathy, so I assume the weight loss must be the rivaroxaban?
Seeing my GP next week to find out where I go from here.
That's very strange I would love to hear how you get on please keep us posted
I have been booked a phone call from my GP on Monday and will post here her reaction
Hello. Reporting back from my GP visit. I have been having quite a lot of indigestion. It seems that this is most likely caused by the rivaroxaban , with the knock-on effect that I am so uncomfortable that I do not want to eat as I normally would - hence weight loss! Makes sense.
I have been changed to apixoban to see if that improves the situation.
Weight loss could also be because you have stopped the bisoprolol. Your metabolism will have sped up. My weight rocketed when I started taking bisoprolol
I have been on Rivaroxaban for seven years put on weight 5kg =11lbs and couldnt loose it., but just in the last couple of months , stopped Atorvastatin 5mg and Perindopril 8mg and my weight has reverted to pre Rivaroxaban.
I think it started when I began Telmisarton ( Perindopril replacement ) but it could be the Atorvastatin ! I dont know but its good to have a normal metabolism again.
Oh, I am on bisoprolol too. Wish I could come off all medication!!!
I've seen GP and waiting to see warfarin team to discuss everything meanwhile been given a prescription for Omeprazole to stop the indigestion and reflux
Good news
After 1 week on warfarin I've lost 10 lbs with absolutely no change to diet I feel a lot less bloated too
I had a bad few days changing from Rivaroxaban to warfarin with giddiness I felt like I was blind drunk
So for now I'm convinced Rivaroxaban caused my weight gain I hope my experience helps others
Update ...I've now lost a further 4lbs
This was such a helpful thread! I had a PE just over a year ago which is when I started rivaroxoban and I have put on a significant amount of weight which my mum thought to be water weight from the tablets but I always dismissed this! Definitely going to book to see the GP next week! Thank you!
Good luck so glad to have helped you don't be surprised if your doctor disagrees about the weight gain being down to Rivaroxiban I'm still convinced it was in my case
WOW! i am on Rivaroxiban for last 3 months and having steady weight gain of 1-2 pounds every week. I am so depressed ! but hopefully i will stop taking this med mid oct 2020. I hope i loose this extra weight around 6 kgs after that...
Anything u suggest @Terry2407
