Hello all, 47 yo male. I went in for an ear surgery(surfers ear) and they told me I was in afib.
Not really any signs of afib. Couple times out of breath but I thought it may be anxiety. Lots of stress and anxiety in my life and this just multiplied it.
It’s been a month now and a have a cardioversion scheduled. I’m on a calcium channel
Blocker and prodaxa prior to the Cv.
Anyone else been in perm afib that can give me advise? Thank you.

I was diagnosed with AF in 2011 but looking back I believe I was going in and out of AF-at times being back in NSR (normal sinus rhythm) for quite a while before it showed up on an EKG. This was no one's fault-just that when an ekg was done I happened to be in sinus rhythm with no sx so things looked ok. But I would make trips to the E.R. which I thought were asthma or anxiety when my heart would speed up for no apparent reason. I usually got a diagnosis of anxiety. Between 2011 and now, won't bore you with details ( they are all over my posts on this forum.) I have had the usual 'twisty-turns' re my A-fib journey that we all travel trying to find the treatment plan that works best for us. Our main common denominator seems to be we all respond differently to meds and treatments so finding what works involves some trial and error esp in the beginning. I am now stable and can best describe my current AF status as stable and an illness I can leave on the back burner most of the time. It is a scary diagnosis and you have to make your own journey but I hope the time will come soon when you have a good care plan and will be living a comfortable and stable life with your AF. Take care. irina1975
Hi Bigwave. I wrote a reply but forgot to type it in your personal reply box. Hope you find it. Take care. irina
My first knowledge of AF was when i was 44. Reasonably fit, but like yourself there was a lot of stresses in my life. One day out of the blue i could feel my heart racing into the 150's. After a couple of visits to my GP and then hospital i was diagnosed with AF. I was given anticoagulant and bisoprolol. I've had a couple of cardioversions since
When i've been in persistent AF over the subsequent years ive been fortunate that i can get on with life as normal apart from my exercise regime has changed a little. I haven't done any big mileage runs since being diagnosed, but can still do HIIT sessions
I'm 49 now and have recently had an ablation for "flutter".
