Flecainide
Flecainide is often discussed here as it is a medication that plenty of us rely on. Some have taken it for many, many years. Are you happy with it?
Some find their condition progresses and they move on to other things.
I am fine with it till now.Thank you for your response Rellim2
Ive been on it for 15 years. 3 x 50mg per day. It has kept me stable so thats the main thing. I assume as long as it works they keep you on it?
Hi Esmi74. I have been on Flecainide for around 13 years, and I have read of people on this Forum in excess of this number. Generally it keeps me in SR interspersed with shorter periods of AF. I have identified risk (trigger) areas for me like lifting too heavy objects, shovelling snow, or exercising at too high a level. A recent strenuous Hospital lung capacity test has had an adverse impact. I have found it much better than Sotalol (did not work), and Amiodarone (effective but I had breathing problems).
If Flecainide stopped working for me I would consider three options depending on my condition. I could try other irregular heart drugs with the usual risks of ineffectiveness or side effects, and the time period. At the moment when in AF it slows me down but does not prevent me doing most things, so I could just live in AF. Alternatively I could look at an ablation even if would not ‘cure’ me. I know of a case where a lady’s quality of life was dramatically improved by an ablation even though she remained in AF.
I am also on Bisoprolol a drug where I have been reducing the dosage, because below 5 mg it does not ‘drag’ me back so much. Terry.
