Hi everyone. Please can someone tell me the difference between an irregular heartbeat and atrial flutter. Does it feel different. Would I be aware of it.

Hi,

Flutter is a fast regular heart beat and AF is irregular- AF may be fast or slow depending on the individual/ what meds they are on etc. If you practice taking your pulse you will get to know whether it's regular ( same timing between beats) or irregular.

In layman's terms flutter is a fast regular beat and fibrillation is all over the place. On ECG flutter shows as a saw tooth line whilst fibrillation is an irregular irregular line with no p wave (the little one before the big one.) No idea if you would notice or not as many people don't know that they have AF. Depends on how sensitive we are to our hearts.
