Why do you think it is the Apixaban? For how long have you been taking it? If you have AF it will make you feel very tired. Are you taking any other meds?

I haven’t noticed any side effects from Apixaban but everyone reacts very differently.

I've just seen that these can be side effects and wondered how many it effected..

I've been on it a few weeks

They have to list every single side effect that has ever been reported - when you look at the numbers, very few people experience the side effects. The numbers are on the leaflet in % terms but I doubt you will ever get the actual numbers of people.

No I haven’t but we are all different. Do talk to your doctor about it. Some of the other NOACS are known to affect stomach but not Apixaban. Did this start as soon as you started Apixaban and have you had flu etc when feeling sick??

No problems with Apixaban Sarah.

Try taking it with a full glass of water. Someone in the pharmaceutical industry once said at a meeting that because many medications are quite potent, they should be taken separately to avoid any interaction. So many of us grab a “handfull” and take them altogether in one go.....not me of course.....😳

Hi Sarahjanerawson :-) I think it takes a while for our bodies to adjust to some medication.

When I started taking Apixaban and a beta blocker around the same time, things were ok for the first month then I had head pains and nausea or three weeks, like my head was being squeezed in a vice. I also had many sleepless nights coming to terms with a diagnosis of AF. It took 3 weeks to get an appointment with a GP who specialises in heart problems and by the time I did the headaches were improving. The Dr said it was rare for Apixaban to have side effects and he reduced my dose of beta blocker which raised my blood pressure so I increased them again myself. I also staggered the medication so I was not taking it all at the same time. After a few weeks I felt better.

My AF makes me tired, beta blockers slow my heart rate so I can't do things with the same vigour I once did.

I know I am probably going to have to take medication for the rest of my life. Almost all medication seems to have side effects some worse than others so it is a case of what can be best tolerated. Taking medication is preferable to the alternatives.

It is wise for anyone to check side effects with a doctor but I wouldn't be too hasty in switching meds until you have given them a fair trial.

Not what you're looking for?
