New member here. I've had a few episodes of AF in the past 6 years. The first one was due to "Holiday Heart" aka stress and drinking too much on my birthday (my 29th). Since then I had another episode of AF this past April in which my PCP put me on Eliquis and Metoprolol Tartrate which I have been on and still take both. I had another episode about 2 weeks ago while in another city. I was able to get back in rhythm by medication thankfully. The cardio doctor at the ER who is now my cardio doctor put me on Flecainade, 50mg/x2 a day. I have a family trip to Disneyworld in March and am worried about this new medication. Has anyone going to a theme park and experienced any issues in getting around the parks, riding rides, etc? I went to Disneyland in July while on the other two meds and experienced no issues.
I guess the same question applies for exercise as well.

Hi trub01, as you may know we are not medically trained therefore unable to advise on medication issues, but if it helps, I was prescribed 2 x 50mg flecainide prior to my ablation because I was experiencing runs of AF around a year after a cardioversion. For me, and please bear in mind we are all different, I had no problems and I took the medication for around 6 months and had no further episodes. Being a good bit older in the tooth than you, I would not have been tempted to experience any of the extreme rides I have seen at Disney, but I can understand why a youngster like you would not want to miss out on the fun. As a boring 'ole f**t, my advice would be, why take the risk unless you are prepared to pay the price, but maybe the sensible thing would be to ask your cardio doctor or an EP.
Thanks for the reply I do appreciate it. I did speak with my cardio doc and his PA. My cardio doc seemed more concerned about me going while on eliquis, however I did disneyland while on it with no issues. His PA said I should be fine since the cardio doc never addressed my original question to him. I was just curious if anyone has had the experience. But I will probably avoid the bigger crazier theme parks for right now.
I've been on 2×50mg a day for 10yrs now and have been able to go on plenty of holidays without any problems including long haul flights, diving, snorkelling, plenty of walking and even Disneyland space mountain! Have to say I didn't enjoy it but nothing to do with the AF!

Older and supposedly wiser, I would say nip this one in the bud by not going on the hair raising rides, cutting down the alcohol and pre and post holiday stresses. It's not as hard as it sounds, maybe initially you feel like you are losing out but so it would be if you ended up in a foreign A & E & wrangling with your insurance company to cover costs. You soon get used to a healthier way of life with all the attendant reduced health risks for other chronic issues and suddenly life gets brighter again. Lastly, plenty of quality advice on this Forum, so I would strongly advise you do your homework.
Yeah I since my initial issue 6 years ago my alcohol intake was very limited and since my AF last year haven't had any alcohol unless a dixie cup of beer maybe. I have also stopped any caffeine and now am focusing on getting healthier in general.
My brother and I are both on Flecainide and he gave me away at my wedding 5 weeks ago so plenty of stress but no drama! We kept off the alcohol though.
Congrats on the wedding! Yes I have been staying away from alcohol since last year and before that after my initial AF would extremely limit any intake. Thanks for the response.
Hi there and welcome to the AF syndrome, I have been on flecainide for almost a year now and still get AF regularly. They barely bother me apart from occasionally I don't feel too well. It is important to remember that you will generally get an atack of AF when resting and not when active. This happens to me regularly and when I am working hard I am always fine. Go out there and enjoy yourself, go on as many rides as possible and live life to the full. I went on a Go ape last year and my wife went ape but I was more than fine. The doctor told me to do what I want to do and if I feel bad, just stop. Don't let AF rule your life. Carry on living.
This is such an encouraging reply. That was the main thing I told my doctor when we talked about future and what can be done. I want to go on living my life albeit healthier than before!
Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear that you have a positive attitude to AF. I have read up about it and apparently it's not life threatening, so lets get on with it and live life to the full.
