Sorty that you are in pain. Amitriptyline is frequently prescribed for light or mild chronic pain, like fibromyalgia. However, it is not a pain medicine and will not work in more intense pains.
There are many meds specifically for nerve ( neuropathic ) pain. I can't advise if any of the others are more or less likely to interact with the drugs you are already on. But there may well be better options
I’m neither a doctor or a pharmacist, Only they can give advice but I was recently prescribed 10 mg daily of this for nerve pain and when I was getting the prescription filled the pharmacist suggested it should not be the drug of choice due to my AF medication. I returned to my doctor and went down another route. It’s good that you will be having the discussion on Wednesday.
Can you tell me which medications he suggested if your not taking amitriptyline thanks
The suggestion was Gabapentin which I declined because it is addictive. I’m now just taking pain killers, having physio and using Capsaicum cream on prescription. None of which is super effective but I don’t want to go down the Gabapentin route, I’ve done it once before. I’m sure that your medical practitioner will have much better ideas than me, this is just me personal experience.
I tried gabapentin and had to hold on to the furniture as I was so dizzy then they gave me pregabalin which worked but started to get muscle aches so dr told me to wean off of that capsicum cream did nothing for my pain relief diazepam has helped but they will only give me 6 to take when the pain is really bad and as that is everyday that is not going to be for me long term although as gabapentin and pregabalin are addictive as well I can't really see the difference thanks for replying
Hi Kingsley, just wondering how you got on with your telephone consultation today? Really hope your GP was helpful...
Hi Jane he wants me to try a low dose of pregabalin 25mg 3times a day and 10 mg amitriptyline at night and see how I go on that and see him again in 6weeks time he said if I could have taken a higher dose of amitriptyline he would have suggested that but my cardiologist says only 10 mg of amitriptyline as it not wise with someone who has any heart problems mine is afib and then I would not have had to take the pregabalin would have rather put up the amitriptyline but as that's not possible I am giving his suggestion a go thanks.
