I have been on Sotalol 80mg, one table twice daily for a week now since my kidney robotics surgery and am not happy with the side effects I am getting. I am woken up in the early hours with a cold sweat and look as though I have been drenched with water. Also about an hour after taking my first table in the morning I get a very slow irregular heart rate. I know my pacemaker is set not to go below 60 but this is different.
I am going to see my GP next Monday, should I ask him to refer me back to the cardiac dept at the hospital I had my surgery in and where my pacemaker clinic is, as they prescribed the Sotalol. Or Can I ask to be referred to an EP specialist as I did in 2014 when I first go AF and saw Dr Grace at Papworth.

Hi there...Ive been taking Sotalol at the same dosage as you for over 20 years and not experienced those symptoms..just tiredness as with all beta blockers. You need to know that NICE do not recommend Sotalol any more for AF as it can cause a specific irregular heartbeat think its called long QT syndrome? So you definitely need to inform your EP or GP of your symptoms.I queried whether I should come off it but my GP said as I didnt seem to have any side effects to stick with it.An ECG at your Docs surgery would check this out for you in the short term.Once again..I am not a health professional so please consult your doctor.Hope you soon get the answers you want.Take carexx
I have night sweats and heavy sweats first thing on waking but had not pinpointed Sotalol . I take 2x80mg twice daily. It is worth mentioning it when I next see GP -thank you for that. Apart from that it seems to stabilise my heart rate okay.
