Sorry Gents this one for the ladies .... I'm 62 and been taking Xarelto for AF for almost a year and have just noticed a small amount of bleeding .. Is this something I should lie awake worrying about ?

My advice would be to go to your GP and get it checked out to determine the source and reason for the bleed. I think the leaflet in the pack refers to this. Better to be cautious I would say.Hope all OK. Others may have experienced this and be able to help.

Hi there

I also had this problem, it started 9 months ago, i have been on Xeralto for 3 years. Went to my GP about 5 months ago and she thought it was not the Xeralto but the breast cancer tablets that I am on. I came off the breast cancer medication for 2 months and the bleeding stopped, I am now on another medication and all is okay. You should consult your GP on this, I assumed that it was the anticoagulant that was causing the problem, I think I may have read somewhere it can happen, but cann't find that info now, but my GP was pretty sure it was not. GP booked a ultra-sound internal and external scan of the womb ect for me at the hospital to check all was okay, this was all clear. So please see your GP about this. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Hi Janshep , that must be quite alarming. I would certainly see you GP as soon as you can but in the meantime try not to worry . Maybe you can switch to another N.O.A.C.

I had this but had already had an ultrasound check for any nasties beforehand so was happy to leave. Very intermitant

Any vaginal blood spotting, however small, needs to be checked out. It may be nothing to do with anticoagulation. I had slight spotting on and off for some months in my early 60s before I started anticoagulation and it was a sign of something that needed treatment. Don't ignore it.

I have also been on Rivaroxaban for nearly a year and was very worried about taking it and the tales I had heard about no reversal (unlike warfarin) if one bleeds internally. I have only one kidney so I did have some blood in the urine and was cut down to 15mgs. I know you are worried, but just remember that it is far better to take the drug than to have a blood clot leading to a stroke. I have also heard that there is a bleed reversal now, but I don't know if that is correct.

Keep well
