Ablation stopping AF can allow the left atrium to reduce in size. In fact drugs or DCCV (cardioversion) which control the fibrillation can also have this effect . How much and how quickly is difficult to say.

After my two heart attacks I was told that hearts don't repair themselves, yet in a recent MRI they couldn't find the scars left from them. So I think hearts do regenerate themselves over time, though it's a very long term process unlike a cut finger or whatever. Key to any recovery is keeping yourself fit and active so do that and hopefully you won't need to read these pages for much longer :-)
