Does AF effect your head? I had not felt well from last xmas then in feb 17 I had a TIA and since then my head feels terrible every day this horrible feeling. a feeling of doom and gloom hits me, and not much sleep since feb. Could it be the stroke or the meds they put me on after the stroke Rivaroxaban 20mg and bisoprolol 7.5mg. My head feels heavy also.

Don't know what others have to say but Bisoprolol made me feel awful and very very old. I was only on a small dose but it really didn't suit me, felt very odd as well as old. Hope it is just the drugs as they can maybe change you to an alternative?

I agree with Hidden I think the beta blocker may be at the root of your problem especially at 7.5mg dose.

Also could be the rivaroxaban - made me feel weird in the head, hard to describe - that's gone now I've changed anticoagulant

Hi 777777

I'm particularly interested in the head episodes you mention. I know that these things are often almost impossible to descrIbe, but is there is any way you could give more detail to the "terrible" feeling and give the "doom and gloom" aspect in a little more detail? I have had occasional frighteningly peculiar head things since being on Flecainide and Xarelto and have wondered if there is a connection. It would be interesting to see if there are any similarities in our experiences. However, if you'd rather not put yourself through the stress of trying to describe your attacks, that's OK. I do understand! And wish you all the best.

Hi Frances, it is very hard to describe it is like a pressure and it never lifts only slightly sometimes. It has been like this since I had the TIA in feb and getting not much sleep does not help, I don't know if it is the AF or the TIA or the meds and the doctor is a waste of time, she just said it could be the meds but when my mood lifts I should be able to put up with it.

I feel for you! Thank you for describing the head sensations. Helpful as they may be, these medications have a lot of nasty stuff to answer for, I think. Is there any way you could get a referral for a second opinion? My own cardiologist is another one who seems unmoved by any mention of side effects. But unless they have personally experienced these things they don't really have a clue. I've had some of the same head things you mention (but haven't had a TIA) plus other brain events that are alarming, for which I've been blaming the AF meds even though I'm not certain. It would be very good to find a specialist who is willing to listen closely and empathize!

Please keep us updated on how you are doing!

I would change your GP - you should not have to put up with it. It is probably the Bisoprolol that is making you feel unwell. I take 5mg, I have had this increased to 7.5 several times and could not tolerate that dosage. It affected my vision, had brain fog as I call it, just felt awful and have gone back to 5 mg. I also take Rivaroxaban and no side effects there. The feeling of doom and gloom that was mentioned is common in AF. Hope you get your meds sorted soon.

I was on Xarelto and felt awful, could barely function and always in a daze, weird dreams also, once my doc switched me it was like night and day. Hope this helps.

Bisoprolol, even at lose dose (2.5mg) really affected me. I felt I was surrounded y treacle, as soon as I stopped moving, I fell asleep! Coming off this and changing to ACE inhibitors / calcium channel blockers really improved things. Now all I hope is that post ablation, I will be able to reduce these down as well!

Now all I need is to stop the Syndrome X microvascular angina........
