Started my Apixaban

jedimasterlincoln profile image

As per the title. Started my apixaban this week in readiness for my 3rd ablation. Be interested to see how it differs from warfarin which I didn't get on with last time due to dietary restrictions and blood tests.

Only downside is I've had to stop my anti-inflammatory meds for my arthritis (Naproxen) and nothing else seems to touch it!

Been on Apixaban for a couple of years now after warfarin. No problems to report.

Hope it goes well, great not to have tests which were a real nuisance.

All the best for your ablation.

Interesting to hear you are /were on Naproxen. Have you stopped taking these altogether or just for the procedure. I always thought these were contraindicated for AF and indeed can promote it.

I've stopped taking them because of the apixaban. I've mentioned to cardiology numerous times that I'm on naproxen for osteoarthritis (and A&E when admitted) and nothing has been said about it being a problem.

I had to stop taking my cox2 anti inflammatory drugs. It's been hell, but quite possibly the cause of my AF anyway.

Some days I can't move because of the pain.

Curse you ankylosing spondylitis

There's never been any mention of a link between NSAIDs use for my knee and my AF/flutter oddly enough. This thread is the first I've heard of there being a potential link.

Hi Jedi - I've been taking Apixaban for nearly four years without problems but was also told to avoid NSAID's because of the risk of bleeding.

The Danish research into NSAID's and AF is at this link

bmj.com/content/343/bmj.d3450

However, the NHS website reports that the risk is small.

Yep done that as I did with warfarin. Just doubtful its caused my AF if no cardiologist has mentioned it in the last 5 years
