Need advice sotalol extra dose
Hi Ess , are you in the UK , can you dial NHS 111 for advice....
Hi Ess, have you checked the drug leaflet to see what the recommended action is for doubling the dose? Also 111 is good advice from doodle. Hope it all goes well.
Hi it's past an hour now my dad insists not to phone NHS he says he doesn't feel any different and 360 is recommended maximum dose it also states it's likely to have affects withing the first 1-2hrs so I think we've been lucky but I'm definitely monitoring him tonight regularly
When i overdosed on my rhythm control drug many years ago and set off a crazy beat I phoned A&E who were able to calm and reassure me as I had not taken the max dose.
When I was given a large dose of Sotalol in hospital one night. I got up in the morning and passed out, so you see it was still effective then. I would do as the others on this forum have advised and just ring the 111 number for advice. Have you a machine to check his blood pressure and heart rate? Chances are they may both have dropped really low.
Sotalol mayn cause life treatening high heart rate, therefore it has black mark at USA and Sweden. Proper dose of Sotalol has to be arranged at hospital during 1-3 days. My husband is using Sotalol and as I know about possible danger we ar extremely careful of proper timing. I would call 111 for advice.
Copiing: "This medicine may cause a life-threatening type of heartbeat that is not normal (prolonged QT interval). Talk with your doctor if you have a long QT on ECG.
You will have to start and restart this medicine (sotalol tablets) in a setting where your heart will be watched nonstop. Talk with your doctor."
Why taking risks??? Good luck.
Even if I do not like Sotalol it works well for my husbad. It does not have any bad side effects as does new antiarrythmics have. But still it can be deadly f patient did not know howto handle it properly. We did not obtain any information concerning possible serious danger. I googled a lot and now we are extremely careful with timing, taking it on empty stomach ( no food two hours before and after taking Sotalol) and avoiding low or too high levels of K (potassium) and Mg as well as be aware of good hydration.
