Sotalol

Well, today I went for an ECG to check that the 125mg twice daily dose of Sotolol, hasnt further widened the PR interval. I have first degree heart block and a combination of flecanide and bisoprolol had increased it although still within acceptable limits. Despite Sotolols apparent bad press, it seems to be a good alternative for me as the PR interval had actually decreased. The sotolol has made my heart rate and bloodpressure quite low but as I feel fine apparently nothing to worry about. So for now AF is back under wraps thank goodness and fingers crossed it stays like that. I have to go for a MRI scan to check my heart and arteries are still ok and all being well with that I can get on with my life again. Many thanks to you all for being there when I need you. X

So pleased to hear that you are feeling so much better.

Just one thing, if Sotalol is taking your BP and pulse down quite low, wouldn't it be an idea to reduce your high dosage just a little?

It is a good idea. Unfortunately I have tried twice and each time went back into AF. X

It's great to hear that you're doing well.

Remember to go to the MRI scanner with an empty bladder as it can take ages.

I have taken Sotalol for 8 years. It can work very well. I had cyroablation in 2015 which worked great but still take 2 does of Sotalol 80 mg a day. Just in case! I think it gets a bad wrap as long as you are checked regularly. Those of us with AFib know that all of these anti arithmetic medications are dangerous. Fleninade stopped my heart and caused me to have to have a pacemaker.

So best of luck. Glad Sotalol works fir you. When I first started taking it I had no episodes for 3 years.

Thank you. It is good to hear from people that have experience of it. X

I take 40 mg twice per day ... no issues ... one breakthrough in 4+ years. It makes me a little overly emotional, crying easily, but that’s about it. I don’t seem to mind it.

I had the same problems. Didn't think that it could be caused by the Sotolol.
