I would be interested too, although I'm on abixaban and just started magnesium after learning about it on here. 3 days in and no effects today.
Yes I have been taking magnesium for about the same time as you and want to continue. It is no good asking the doctor because if she/he hasn't researched it. Their answer would be not to take it. My INR test is not for another four weeks. I suppose I could go earlier but their answer will be the same as the doctor. Maybe I will carry on taking it and let them adjust the warfarin accordingly.
It had no ill effects with Apixabahn when I was taking it. I'm now just on magnesium and Hawthorne but you must do what the Dr tells you.
People with AFib are usually low on magnesium, though it won't show on a blood test so many doctors don't recognise it, so they may well say you don't need it, but don't be put off by this. The body makes sure there is enough magnesium in the blood, but does so by decreasing your stores of it. You need to build up those stores.
So many people take it, that I'm sure there would be a well-known warning on here if there was any problem. (Try putting 'magnesium' in the search box top right of the screen to see what has been said about taking magnesium in the past) It can, however, cause diarrhea, and then you lose potassium and other minerals as well which is not good, so if that happens decrease your dose - and eat a banana, if possible, to up your potassium levels again.
Thank you for your response. I was actually more concerned with the reaction of magnesium and warfarin. As I have read that magnesium is a natural blood thinner and I was wondering if there was anyone on the site that is taking warfarin that has had any experience with them. I am aware of the benefits of magnesium. I will continue to take magnesium and have my warfarin levels adapted.
I am always, AWAYS googling on drog interactions of eny supplements with medicine ordered by doctor. Magnesium is supposed always be in body and only negative effect which I know about is loose stool (diarrhea) which is not dangerous only unpleasant. But check yourself by googling.
I have googled it a few times. And as you say is true it is in the body and some of us are deficient in it. I also noted on there the diarrhoea aspect if we have too much of it. But I also noted that it is a natural blood thinner I.e. My concern with the reaction with the anticoagulant we are taking. I am on warfarin. This was my question. Like you I think it is good to take and I will continue to do so. When I go for my next INR test I will let you all know if it has increased.
