Oh no!!

Saw and heard last Friday, on the local tv news sounds as though Manchester Royal Infirmary, Cardiology Dept is now going through 'a state of demise'!! Reported that staff are leaving and looks there is a great probability of transferring some of their patients to Liverpool! A rather long journey from East Cheshire to travel. Seeing my EP in August, so will do my darnedest to find out which patients are a priority etc

I understand your concern with regard to travelling. On the positive side liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital is a great hospital. I travel by choice there and its round trip of approx 150 miles.

What a blow!

Wouldn't Wythenshawe Hospital be a closer? - if they are an option of course.

I had my first ablation at Wythenshawe and was very well looked after. If you live in Cumbria you have to travel to an EP and mine is now in Blackpool which is a bit nearer.

I am at Wythenshaw hospital and travel an hour from Lancashire, I have had very good treatment with an EP there. I did hear the news about Manchester hospital but perhaps you could transfer to there.

Thanks ever so much Gemsmum and Rellim296, was so shattered hearing of MRI - for the past 10 years have held them 'on hallowed ground' my EPhas been so helpful and understandinge. Gives more peace of mind realising that Wythenshaw is still on the doorstep.

Wythenshawe is home of the North West Heart Centre and attracts most of the best people in the region so that's a far better bet as it's just along the road from you. Ask to be transferred there.

MRI has always had the look of something from a war zone about it so no wonder staff don't want to work there.

Sorry Mike really do disagree with you!! Besides me with AF, my youngest daughter, at 30years old was told by cardiologist at MRI, following a 'table tilt test' that she had to have a pacemaker. It was her herself that said to me to change hospitals. All medic staff have been excellent with their help and advice. My EP lives very locally, on many occasion we can bump into each other at the local village store. From there have really built up a very close patient/EP know how. Sorry to keep ranting on, but my comments on MRI are worth recommended to all.

It was your original post that said staff are leaving because MRI is in a 'state of demise'. Maybe your EP will move to Wythenshawe anyway as it would be an easier drive for him/her, and remember your GP can refer you to your hospital of choice so nobody will have to go to Liverpool if there are more convenient alternatives.
