I have a horrible cold and cough! Pre op 7th Jan, ablation 23rd Jan! Bit shocked as saw EP November and told could be 7 months but hopefully Feb/March, so wasn’t expecting it to be so quick! Let’s hope this cold/cough goes within the next week. Any suggestions on what I can take for the cough, on Bisoprolol and Apixaban!

Date for Ablation has come through but oh no..,
I’m sure the pre assessment team will advise as they will not want you to infect either the medical team or other patients. Normal over the counter cough ‘n cold medication may ease the symptoms but be sure to avoid anti-inflammatories
Thanks, fingers crossed I’ll be ok!
I had a terrible cold and was scheduled for an ablation three weeks from that day and I got better. You have time, just get some rest. Don't overdo it.
Get a good quality honey possibly Manuka and mix a teaspoon in hot water with squeezed lemon juice and sprinkle half teaspoon ginger in. Twice a day should see a difference.
I would personally avoid over the counter meds. Many are conglomerates to address all possible symptoms including some you dont have. Anything to ry up colds are a no no with AF.
I am a big fan of teatree oil, I gargle with one drop in a cup of warm water and use steam inhalations with a couple of drops. It is anti bacterial and anti viral. Also as already said manuka honey which I melt with blackcurrant jam and water till syrupy and keep in a jar. You can take as often as you like.
Try breathing in, breath out and then breath out a bit more that stops "stuff " accumulating.
I assumed a heavy cold would be a barrier to one of my ablations, but it went ahead without issue as it was only under sedation.
I discovered once without checking that Sudafed was the wrong thing to take. All I take now is paracetamol and warm fluids.
I find drinking natural honey and fresh lemon in hot water the best!
Lets hope you have a shortlived bug, alot can change in a couple of weeks . Good luck
I take oregano oil capsules as they have antibiotic and antiviral properties but they also have "blood thinning" effects too though how much I don't know so it is a risk. N acetyl cysteine helps fluidify phlegm and makes it easier to cough up however this too like ginger and garlic also has anticogulant effects. I'm afraid I take the attitude that being on Apixaban is not going to make me suffer twice as long and possibly induce afib so I take such remedies as it's for a short time only.
I had quite a bad cold when I had my ablation last January , they went ahead with it and said they weren’t concerned as I didn’t have a high temperature. Good luck
Wow, 5 weeks, then 2 is amazing! Are you in the States? In the UK around 8 weeks (which is roughly what I will have waited since seeing EP) is a very short wait!
Hydrate, vitamin C, sleep and zinc aceticum and zinc gluconium (also known as Zicam in the US). For the cough, warm water with honey and lemon.
