Your dentist should be told about you taken Apixaban and Bisoprolol. My very professional dentist does not take any action when I have cleaning, checks, or fillings.I am currently having an overlay treatment which does not involve any bleeding 'just' drilling and 'pulling about' it is done with injections to ease pain and discomfort as much as possible. But you need to discuss the situation with him/her, as dentists may differ in their procedure....and also according to the state of your general health.
Thanks gingercarts
I'm going for a check up and to update my medical records.
Do you not have any injections when you have fillings?
I am aware that I must ask for adrenaline free.
Thanks
Auby
Yes, Auby...with injections for fillings...as I wrote! But I do not have adrenaline free injections.Although I am a 'scaredy cat' my gentle breathing exercises while in the chair seem to work for me...even for long sessions. But check this out with your dentist
Your dentist needs to know about your heart condition and medication - mine always asks me to fill in my 'meds form'.
It is also very important that you discuss your AF and anaesthetics which contain adrenaline. Adrenaline is an AF trigger for many people (me included) and we make sure that non-adrenaline injections are used at all times.
Dentists are used to dealing with anticoagulated patients and have their own procedures.
I also have AF and take Apixaban and have had a large tooth out, as well as a filling and have had no problems.
Hi I am a newly diagnosed afib person on 1.25 bisoporol and apixaban
Just had first visit to dentist since diagnosis dentist was great just told him about meds and treatment all went ahead as planned
Try not to worry but know it is racist said than done
I meant easier said than done oops x
My dentist is very reluctant to do any work beyond the basic clean at check up. I need a wisdom tooth removal, she will not do it herself and would not refer me to the hospital until I checked with my cardiologist.
Thanks everyone,
Just come back from dentist. All ok no treatment needed !
We discussed medications and future visits, and she put my mind at rest.
No major issues there but you do need to advise your meds. Also request all anaesthetic to be free of adrenaline to minimise any increase in heart rate. The thinner is only really relevant if you were to require an extraction
