Hi is everybody remaining under care of cardiologist even when stabilised or are they relying o GP?
Cardiac care: Hi is everybody remaining... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Cardiac care
I was discharged from my cardiologist and under the care of the GP under the proviso that I could contact them and go back if needed - which I did.
The same for me, though not yet been back.
Same with me!
I am still in touch with mine nine years since my last ablation mainly because I ignore normal protocols and use e mail . I haven't seen him for 18 months but had an e chat last month. It is an exceptional relation ship mind you as he has never formally discharged me.
I have a pacemaker too Bob in all honesty don't trust GP after treating me for stress for two years which was AF complicated by benign tumour in heart. Had pacemaker check atrial wire pacing 99% of time and ventricle one 1% . Also some fast runs showing up. Just think cardio should be keeping on books. I however would have no qualms contacting consultant if I was concerned
I've been fairly stable since 2014 but see my cardiologist every six months 'to keep an eye on me as I am on advanced anti-arrhythmic therapy'. His words - 200mg Flecainide daily. I'm more than happy with that arrangement.
I believe I will always be in the care of my cardiologist from what he said
I was discharged by my cardiologist as he said there was nothing else he could do unless anything changes. My G.P is suppose to monitor my condition but to be honest he doesn't really understand how ill I feel at times, all I get is it's really common lots of people have it nothing I can do.
Could you ask to be referred to a different cardiologist, or, better still, to an EP? Read up on the AF Association site for lots of information.
I'm not sure there are any EP's in Cornwall, but I will check it out. I have asked about having an ablation but my cardiologist said no as it wasn't life saving. Then discharged me. I think I may ask about being referred to another cardiologist. Thank you for your response.
He is an EP
I was discharged by cardiologist on flecainide same dose as @Finvola.He said I could come back yearly if I would prefer but it would be unnecessary if I was ok and to come back if needed anytime via GP. I am now on a reduced dose sorted by GP
I was discharged and just told to see my GP for an ECG once a year.
I only saw a cardio once, since then it's just been my GP...
Quite happy with my Gp follow up and chat whenever I want to!
Has everyone out there, who has been diagnosed with PAF, actually seen a cardiologist ??
Yes I see cardiologist/EP on a regular basis. I pay privately as I don't have medical cover
At the moment my heart is behaving itself. If things change I am going to pay privately to see an EP as I think it would be worthwhile. There is an experienced cardiologist/EP at my local hospital ( Gloucester Royal Hospital.)
I've had the best of care along my journey in view of benign tumours in my heart extensive open heart surgery to remove cox maze procedure AF other arrythmias and permanently pacing with pacemaker don't want just GP overseeing my care
Your health issues sound quite complex, so I can understand why you would not want to leave your treatment solely to your GP. My PAF symptoms are very insignificant compared to your heart problems. Keep well, my friend.
yes , I went private so i could see a top Cardiologist
