Ankle swelling
Sorry Lucillear, but I'm not able to help you other than to say I used to take 3.75 Bisoprolol and 120 Diltiazem and my ankles were fine. Hopefully, others may be able to help.
I took bisoprolol (2.5) for about 7 months and experienced various unwelcome side effects including swollen ankles during that time. My lower legs felt like lead and walking felt like 'wading through treacle' especially by the late afternoon and if I had been on my feet for several hours. The dose was reduced to 1.25, but the side effects were not much better after another 2 months. For the last 6 weeks I haven't taken a beta blocker at all (all with GP and cardiologist 'approval') and I feel a lot better for that however I am due a medications reappraisal any day now.
Do bear in mind that we all react to medications differently and also just because things coincide it is not necessarily a case of cause and effect. Why not have a chat with your GP?
That's exactly howhat mine feel am due a review shortly so might see if there's an alternative
Hi lucillear,
I'm on Bisoprolol, 5 mg daily which I take in the evening and I don't get any swelling of the ankles. I was diagnosed with AF at 65 and am now 72 and have been on this stuff continuously. After I've been active or when I get home from work after a bus driving shift my right ankle is a bit puffy but then its been in one position all day - accelerator/ brake all day. My left ankle is fine.

I am on Bisoprolol 5 mg morning and evening since last summer and yes i get puffed ankles in the evening but this has gone completely after a couple of hours in bed. I am also on dialtiziem 120mg like flapjack. I was on diuretics but have stopped them. I want to reduce the bisoprolol but at the moment have other thyroid issues with change of tablet so want to sort that out first.
Had AVR last August and am 70 years young
Yes I did,not only ankles but all joints. Needed a stick after 18 months ,refused to take this drug and after a couple of weeks back to myself. Don't take me as an example, things might settle for you,we are all different
I have Cardiomyopathy which causes my Afib. My weak heart cant pump out all the fluid in my body and it collects on my lungs and ankles.
I was put on diuretics which has helped remove the fluid and my ankles have returned to normal.
I was told that my AF caused my DCM not the other way around. Since my AF improved I no longer have Cardiomyopathy.
i am on 12.50mg Bisoprolol daily and have found ankle swelling some days but not every day. i must also add that i have been on this drug for many years now but lower doses, it used to cause the same problem then.
