Hi. this might sound naïve but am due to have a general routine blood test and am on Rivaroxaban. should I do anything special? eg stop taking it that day? Mention it to the phlebo?

Routine blood test
Hi glosfrog
Nothing at all makes no difference, other than the piece of cotton wool they put on afterwards should be held in place for maybe 30 secs longer.
You can mention to the Phlebotomist if you wish
Be well

No problem, I've had loads of blood tests recently, with no excessive bleeding.
It is on my notes, so they always give me a plaster instead of cottonwool, and tell me to hold it for longer.
Thanks folks - knew I was worrying over nothing!
I had one yesterday and when I told the nurse, she used a finer needle and it didnt bleed at all, much to my great surprise! Today there's not even a mark, I was really impressed.
Hi glosfrog, I am on Rivaroxaban and had blood taken a fortnight ago. I did tell the nurse beforehand about the Riv'ban. My arm didn't bleed much at all, but I had bleeding into the area around the injection site and ended up with a big bruise which lasted for a week. Didn't bother me as it's winter time and I'm wearing long sleeved jumpers. Minor problem really and it could have been down to the way the injection was done. Am due for another b/test in two days' time. Will be interesting to see what happens this time. Best wishes, Liz
The only thing you need to know is whether this will be a "fasting" blood test or not.
With some types of test they usually get you in early in the day and tell you not to eat before you have the test. With other types of test it's OK to eat drink and be merry.
Not a problem. I've been on Rivaroxaban for a month and had a blood test. Did not notice any difference, just tell the technician or nurse your on it. They just put the bandage on a little tighter. Don't worry.

Am on Apixaban and had a blood test yesterday, I had no bleeding whatsoever afterwards, much better than when on Warfarin. Best wishes Kath
I do think you should mention that you are on anticoagulant as I do bleed excessively after the test. But if you tell them they know what to do beforehand. They usually plaster it up more. It stops after a short while but I leave the dressing on for a few hours afterwards. But it depends on you some people are ok with it. But since this is your first test it is best to be sure.
