Apixaban and antibiotics

Hi has anyone taken Apixaban and doxycycline together . I am anxious of any increased risk of bleeding when taking this antibiotic .

First read the leaflets for contraindications if still not sure then ask your pharmacist.

Thank you for the reply . Have read the leaflet and it does say to contact pharmacy which I did and they said the doctor must think the benefits outweigh the risks.

I just get so anxious when I take different medications .

Both the doctors and pharmacists computers will alert to any significant interactions of drugs when issued to you so you should always be safe. In addition you can ask Dr Google!

I've had a good check on the data sheet for apixaban and other sites and can't find anything to suggest there is a problem.

Where did you get the idea it may cause a problem from ?

The antibiotics it interacts with are the erythromycin types and rifampin, no mention of tetracyclines like doxy being a problem that has ever been reported.

I think you may be thinking of the interaction with warfarin. Since NOACs and warfarin work in different ways unless there is a chemical reason why you should not take both then there should be no problem. Your pharmacist should be able to answer that question.
