If I were in your shoes I would contact your EP or Rhythm Nurse and seek advice.

Although I have had numerous ablations I must admit that I have never yet been taken off the meds.

I know coming off the meds is one of our goals but my understanding is that you first need a period of stability.

Pete

I would contact your EP via his secretary. I did come straight off drugs like you but all was well.

@bambi57 I would go to A&E if you can't contact your usual health professionals. Better to be over cautious in a situation like that. Anything which makes you feel very unwell is a worry, and the stress of that doesn't help either.

I agree with Bambi.

It sounds as though your heart rate is alternating low then going high which can indicate another type of dysfunction of the electrics of your heart - it will make you feel unwell.

Please go see a doctor and get checked out and list all of your symptoms. It may not be serious or easily corrected - my husband had similar and now has no problems after treatment.

Let us know how you get on and hope you feel better soon.

Best wishes CD.

It seems to me as if you ought to have an ECG when this sort of episode occurs to find what sort of impulses are being emitted & from where . Perhaps your Cardiologist might consider a `Halter` for a while to see what sort of ECG tracing is occurring when these episodes occur.

Ol` timer.

Why no meds ?

Probably for the same reason as I was given an urgent ablation and taken straight off meds - signs of Sick Sinus Syndrome. I am not allowed to take any heart meds except under medical supervision so advice given by others is good.

I agree you need to be seen fairly urgently to get an ecg during these episodes as they could represent episodes of heart block or sick sinus syndrome for which you may need a pacemaker.

You probably shouldn't be driving.

Mine did that but on ecg it was ok, eventually found out it was something called sick sinus disease and given a pacemaker. My friend went into hospital with a suspected heart attack, they said shed had one and to send for relatives living 50 miles away as she was very ill, turned out she had this SSD as well, and she was given a pacemaker, so please take action and have it checked asap.

You haven't got a virus have you? Is that possible, I don't know? It's just that I remember that happening to me and we never got to the bottom of it. But I reckon I had a virus was making me ill generally. It just went away eventually. Think I'd still ask though.

Same thing happened to me and now I have a pacemaker. Not suggesting this is your problem but you should get it checked out asap for your own peace of mind. Hope you at ok

Hi

I spent yesterday in hospital after suffering a simlar episode , my medication keeps my bp at around 48 but when I have a episode it can drop lower and then shot up it feels like your heart is about to jump out your throat become tired and very snappy .... Call 111 and they will advise you it will more than likely end with a trip to a&e but better safe than sorry. I was allowed home, I had had some type of virus which made af episode perticular hard to cope with ... I'm still new to all this and trying to work it all out in my head .. When and why to react to a episode, I am waiting for a ablation and hope this is the answer . Chin up

Like you Bauldy, I was not given any indication as to what to do when I get an episode. I have tacky/brachy AF, which means, like your heart, mine goes very fast and then really slowly. I thought the pacemaker would fix it. Along with the Sotalol. No it is not fixed and so I keep going into A&E where all they do is an ECG, 5 blood tests, X-ray (to check pacemaker is ok) and then wait for things to subside and send me home! Is it better just to stay at home - but - AF can lead to stroke.

GPs and Cardiologists need to give us more information!!!!

Ablation, a doctor told me, does not always work - so think twice about it.

I hope all improves for you soon. (And me!)

Thanks for the reply ... And I hope your situation improves.

I pining my hope on the ablation, my last appointment the cardiologist said I was ideal candidate ... So I hope she's right although we had to nudge her to keep her awake 😊

I've previously had a heart attack, and the follow up care was excellent , I was giving no advice or literature on af this time round .

Look at the main AFA website. There's a stack of information there.

I too have the same symptoms tachy-brady syndrome my rate drops to 28 then up to 140 they have kept me on my meds and say I have was told to just ring 999 if my heart rate drops so low or i have a fast heart rate of more than 130 for 20 mins I was told the fatest way to be seen was via A+E as you will go straight to the front of your EP or cardiologists waiting list

sorry you feel unwell- if it persists, go to A and E just to be checked out

48 is low but not dangerous but it might be lower at other times when you are not aware so doesn't hurt to be monitored for bit to see what is happening. If you feel unwell be guided by that and seek help
