Menstrual bleeding on anticoagulant (strictly one for the girls π)
Hi,
I think it differs for each person, as far as I am aware it can make your periods heavier and longer but not for everyone, I wondered if the nearer I was to the menopause was the reason I was heavier than normal. Shouldn't cause major problems though, but just monitor it I think.
Take care,Wendi
Hi,
Yes - they can do in my experience.
I was on Riveroxaban (had ablation on 13th June) and stayed on it till outpatient appt on Tuesday last week. During that time had a really heavy period which lasted about 3 weeks and even though i'm off the anticoagulant am still spotting now so not sure when it will stop!! I guess this is going to be a side effect of blood thinners by their very nature so not sure what the answer is. Make sure you are on the lowest dose possible I guess? I'm sure it is very common but probably not talked about much,
Cathy
Thank you. I am on day 12 of the heaviest I've ever had by far. It's like someone's turned on a tap and it's relentless. As I'm on HRT I had grown used to a very light few days, if anything. Can't keep this up it clearly won't be doing me any good ref iron levels etc. I will probably need to adjust the HRT somehow. Knowing it's common makes me worry less and takes the urgency away so thank you for replying.
It can do that yes.
Oh my god yes! I'm on riveroxiban I'm 35 and mine are a nightmare!
For me, and bearing in mind I had not had a period in 12 months it was horrendous, I began to bleed on April 1st and was still bleeding 71 days later despite massive doses of norithisterone ( a hormone ) it did not cease at all , I ended up with a haemorrhage and had to have a transfusion as I became so anaemic very quickly, they actually thought I had uterine cancer, Cardiology refused to stop the warfarin so in the end I had a mirena coil fitted and since then things have been a little better .
Thank you for posting about this. So far, so good, but now I won't freak out (as much)
Absolutely. Even aspirin did but a lot worse on rivaroxiban. Am thinking of endometrial ablation after I have my cardio ablation if I have to stay on it. Aged 52 yrs. same amount of days but heavy ++
