Riveroxiban. Just Started.

Hi Folks. Had an ablation mid December last year and thought I was doing ok. A couple of days ago A/F raised it's head again, very disappointed. Went to doctors and asked if I could go on riveroxiban, he was in agreement. I had "researched" these new drugs against Warfarin and the riveroxiban was the one I prefered. No problem describing. My main reason against warfarin was the constant monitoring required. Having read some of the posts on here regarding riveroxiban, have I done the right thing and should I get an electric shaver?.

Not unless your name is Victor Kiam. Anticoagulants all do the same job and slow down the clotting process but they don't thin the blood as is so often said so you would still need an injury to cause bleeding . I have been on warfarin for eleven years, use a blade shaver. play with sharp objects and often cut myself whilst working on the race engines I build. I have never needed any medical attention other than a bit of pressure for a few minutes and a sticky plaster.

I really worried at first, LOL bought electric shaver, but have not had any problems. I do wear Medic Alert necklace.

I'm on Rivaroxaban, no to the electric shaver for me they leave me with a rash every time I use one, good old wet razor and yes I cut myself occasionally, might take a minute more for the blood flow to stop, but still use a bit of toilet paper to dry up any scratches.

You will live your life completely normally, and forget about the anti coagulant very soon,  just remember to take the tablets with food, they can upset an empty stomach in my experience.

And yes I switched from warfarin due to the testing regime, and that I was not staying in range. Don't even think about it now.

I had a blood test yesterday, and was expecting to bleed for ages. But nothing, not a drop on the cotton wool.

Also cut myself a few times whilst working on my old mg. Bled a bit, but nothing to worry about

I changed to Rivaroxaban about five weeks ago as I had hair and nail side effects on Warfarin. The first two weeks I had terrible gastric problems as I was taking it with too little food. I now eat more at breakfast and it seems to have settled down.

I went for a routine blood test on Wednesday and had no problems. I just told the phlebotomist that I was on an anticoagulant and so kept pressure on the cotton wool ball for a little longer.

Like Lorna-doone18, I used to wear a warfarin alert bracelet so have now sent for one to have Rivaroxaban engraved on it.

Thanks for your replies. Yes, I tried an electric razor lots of years ago and it left me with a rash. Talk about sods law. Had my second Riveroxiban today and yes you have guessed it (ok you may not have). Cut my thumb with the Stanley knife, lot's of wadding and time before it stopped. I have cut off the finger of a rubber glove to keep it dry and hopefully to heal quickly. I hope you all keep well. Cheers Bob.
