I am taking riveroxaban and bisoprolol. I feel tired all the time and fall asleep in the afternoon after eating. Can a change of drugs help.

Welcome to the forum Pete.

How long have you been taking Bisoprolo and at what dosage? That drug is renowned for making people feel tired.

I do sometimes have a sleep in the afternoon, but that's because I often wake very early in the mornings i.e. 5am. I go to sleep around 11,30pm. When we were young sleeping well was no problem, not sure why it becomes harder as we age.

As Jean says, it’s likely to be the Bisoprolol but you may need to see a cardiologist to get it changed as GP’s are either unable or unwilling to offer alternatives but that should not stop you from trying. I take a calcium channel blocker called Diltiazem but we hear good reports about Nebivolol which is another betablocker.

I had the same problem. I fell asleep every afternoon and was getting quite breathless. My cardiologist reluctantly agreed that I could change over to Nebivolol. He said that it wouldn’t control my AF so well.

I have never looked back. Now I stay awake all day and I can walk up a hill and talk at the same time.

The biggest plus for me is that when on Bisoprolol I was getting AF on average one a week. Now that has reduced by about 60/70%.

Speak to your cardiologist about a change. I wish you well.

I am on the same medication as you , I saw my cardiologist last week and explained that after 3 months on 2.5 mg Bisoprolol following my second ablation, I was feeling tired more than usual ( 18 months prior similar tiredness feeling but that turned out to be sleep apnea , always worth checking ) anyway he agreed to reduce the dosage to 1.25mg for 6 months. Of course we are all so different but we can only really explain how we feel and what we think our bodies are telling us , and hope we are listened to. Good luck

If you have just started to take these 2 together then yes it’s common place but after a while when they get into your system the effects will wear off ...and yes my Husband does have a little nap in the afternoon ... don’t worry all will be ok.

Hello Southendpete, I would have thought an afternoon kip to be a very natural event for we "oldies", presuming you are one. I have a siesta after lunch most days and am not on any medication either. So don't worry too much

Bisopropol can make you feel very tired and lethargic. Also possible dizziness. It can drop your heart rate. In my case to 45 bpm and I was only taking 1.25 dose. I felt so much better after dropping it. It affects everybody in a different way.

I was feeling tired after taking 1.25mg of bisoprolol for three days. The pharmacist (unlike the doctor) had asked me to report back to him on my experience with the drugs- he took my pulse and told me to stop taking it immediately and the doctor agreed! Rivaroxaban gave me terible diarhea so I now take edoxaban- I still feel tired but my heartrate is no longer dangerously slow - do get back to your doctor and get a different anticoagulant as that might well be the reason for your tiredness. We are all different but doctors have not quite realised that yet! Good luck!

Thank you very much for the information

Sorry, I should have said get off the bisoprolol- or get a lower dosage if you are not already on the lowest!
