Has anyone who is taking Apixaban had a cortisone injection? Is is safe to carry on taking Apixaban when I have the injection? Person on phone who booked my appointment said she would find out and get back to me but hasn't! Thought I would get some sensible information on here . Thanks in advance

Cortisone injection
Hi loobylou, l am on rivaroxiban, similar to Apaxiban. I had an injection for my hip last November, with no problem. I will have another injection shortly, no one has mentioned stopping the anticoagulant. JanR
I'm sure it would be fine. The only thought I have is whether the cortisone would trigger AF.
I've just completed a 5 day course of predisolone 30mg and it didn't put me into AF. I wasn't taking this for arthritis but as a side effect it has made me completely pain free and feel 20 years younger midway through treatment. I know this will be short lived......
Thanks Yatsura
Mine will be an injection for mortons neuroma which I have in both feet so another injection the week after in the other foot😒
Oh that sounds amazing being pain free even if only for a short respite!
Hadn't thought of it putting me into af but mmm yes will have the pip with me
I had injections last year whilst on rivaroxaban and was told to stop taking it the day before as you can get a spinal bleed. Although i had an ablation recently and didnt have to stop for that.
You must ask your consultant for advice on this. They will tell you what to do. Each case is different.
Best of luck.
I had a cortisone injection and my INR went up to 3.6. So better check with your doc before taking it
Thanks everyone. I spoke to the arrythmia nurse today and she is asking the consultant tomorrow. Will let you know what he says
So.......... Arrythmia nurse never got back to me! Can't believe the times the NHS has let me down lately. Sometimes feel I'm living on a parallel universe!
But just to say I saw the muscular skeletal lead today who said it was fine to be on Apixaban and have a cortisone injection in the foot. Other areas are different and can bleed. Obviously check with your own medics if you are having cortisone injections. As Icenae says "each case is different"
Injections done and here's hoping they work!
